IMO - Showing is about showing you animal off to its most potential hence ifs its conformation should be as close to correct to the breed spec as poss - but NOTHING is perfect - before you start. The performance side is the part the rider has control of. I don't think a pony should be shown at any level until it goes correctly at home - and a few people think, even when their pony goes unbalanced/incorrectly they should still do well and moan if they don't. Performance - its about showing your animal off to its best - hence if your pony does go well its the jockeys job to show it off - if you have a well schooled balance pony that works correctly and goes from behind - then lengthened strides are correct - its when they are rushed or pushed into them its not correct. Showing is about putting on a SHOW - people will want to stop and watch you-
