I think FMM will come on and give the Team point of view. But having stood by the ringside at Melplash I can say that this horse is one of the tiny number of horses that, if ridden and presented differently, can be equally good as a RH or LW hunter.

There are a couple of horses (notably Sirius who was this year's supreme riding horse at RIHS) that have been shown very successfully as a riding horse and hunter in the same year. Cheyne Walk has some judges that think he is a superb example of a LW hunter and very true to type, and others who think he is a very true to type large riding horse. He is a very quality horse with plenty of limb and his extremely able jockey presents him differently in each class. There is more to it than just a change of browband!
Riding Horses are a relatively "new" invention and were created to bridge the gap between large hacks and LW hunters - hence some riding horses are a bit hack like and others more huntery. You just have to know what preferences judges have by seeing the types of horses they put up when they judge, and then enter accordingly.
We were delighted with his performance at Melplash!
