Yesterday I helped out a riding club (not the one I am in) one day event. Despite eventing not being my scene, I believe in putting something back into equestrian events of any kind.
However, never again! I am not saying that eventers as a whole are all the same, but many came across as being rude (I clearly do not mix in good enough social circles to be spoken to), arrogant, snobby (classic comment, my daughter's new advanced horse is far too good to do the show jumping at this riding club one day event) and social climbers to the extreme.
Showing suddenly has become far nicer!

I know what you are saying, but can I add that you are talking about Riding Club! Not British Eventing, they are very, very different, having been an event groom for many many years, i have to say that the atmosphere, commaradship etc... at an affiliated event far outways the Summer champs of the NPS, BSPS or PUK.
Eventing itself is very dangerous and I can tell you when things go wrong everyone looks after each other. There is no bit*hing or back stabbing, my best friends are eventers/event grooms and I trust them over any of the showing crowd.
The other thing is that we can leave our equipment outside the stables or in the stables and no-one steals it, you could never do that at any of your shows except HOYS or Olympia.
Sorry to rant, but felt it had to be said, but back to the original comment, Riding Club people tend to think they have "made it" unfortunately, they are not even half way there! But the main thing is that they enjoy themselves and their horses just as much as the rest of us.
