Was at the sale today and particularly concerned by the large lot of entries by a so called reputable breeder from Ireland.Whilst I know they had a long journey to get there, this does not excuse their general very poor condition, the fact that the majority looked as if they had been battered round the head and the sheer lack of human kindness shown to them by their breeder. He could at least not been arrogant enough to put such unrealistic reserves on them all,and they may at least have gone home to good kind homes in this country tonight. The man was a disgrace and felt so sorry to see nearly all his ponies being loaded on a lorry and have to go back home with him!!

I was there too...Prices were good and if I was selling I would of been happy to let the ponies go for the prices. I only watched the first 20 go through....got bored of the ponies not being sold as the reserves were quite high.
One of the first to go, was a very very nice bay 2yr gelding, reached its reserve of £1800 and was sold. SOld by a british breeder, so maybe the british were more realistic about the markets state at the min.
I too saw the irish connies, although they didnt look produced, I dont think they were that bad...I think maybe the breeder could of thought big picture and let them go for the prices, at least he would of had a lot of his stock in the uk, being broken and produced surely that would be good for his prfix? Instead, they are back on the boat and back in the field for winter.

I dont think anything he did today was remotely good for his pre fix,how they looked in the sale ring flatterd how they looked close up,poor souls.Had liked some of his ponies produced by Debbie Boylan and shown over here and expected far more from his entries, his 3yr olds looked like yearlings so how could he have possibly expected top prices. The bidders today should have made him realise how terribly wrong he has got it,,and some lower profile consignments put him to shame.People say he is a millionare, not sure if thats true if he is he should be ashamed to see his ponies looking so poor,if I were a millionare i would have bought them all and given them some much deserved TLC

I actually thought the prices were quite low didn't see all the connies but in the horses there were some bargains to be had , there were quite a few of connies that had been withdrawn . I don't think the connies were neglected they just don't feed them like they do over here and they don't produce them for sale ring . The irish have been getting good prices for their young stock and they still have Clifden sale in October.

i went and watched all the connis go thro , i agree that the man in question did not help the irish reputation at all . One of the first few that he put through made £2200 and it didnt meet the reserve , he was very unrealistic IMO . We did bid on one of his 3 year olds , but again it didnt meet the reserve at £1800 . His ponies did look immature and a bit run up , but they would prob be relatively unhandled and they only travelled over the day before which doesnt give them much time to settle .
My irish contact and good friend had two in the sale and they looked fab , were well presented and went for good prices to well known people , so please dont tar all the irish with the same brush !
I think the sale was well supported and i really hope they do another in the future .

I have to agree with capster, the sale ring flattered how they looked. Close up each one of them accept the stallions had brutal marks covering either their body or face....how is this justified?I understand that they had a long journey and fair enough they dont feed them up like they do over here but i really dont think that this is any excuse for bringing them looking so poor and so sad.

We bought 2 from there yesterday, wouldnt have glanced at the ponies in question as they all looked under nourished and under developed and looked like they had had a rough journey - considering they looked ferrell would explain the scuffs and marks they sustained. We bought a vey nice 2yr old and the part bred bay who is just stunning

I thought the man in question was greedy and should of been jumping at the prices that some a few of his ponies made. Mum and I left halfway through as we got bored....the applause when a pony actually sold was rather funny. There were some lovely connies there (not that I know anything about them) however that were healthy and produced correctly for the sales ring.
LOVED Henrietta Knight and Lady Vesty's broodmare, whoever bought that is one lucky person!

tafsmum really liked the two you bought thought the part bred was stunning have to agree with all the above comments about the 17 lots from the Kippure Stud they all looked very immature more like yearlings than three year olds and very run up but we thought that was due to the travelling. I have just looked quickly back at the catalogue and many of his lots were unsold at 2K which seemed to be fair proces for what he had to offer and the condition they were in . There were some very nice ponies at the sale and many were very well presented.

We did sorry!!!!!! He has settled in lovely a bit quiet as the partbred is full of the joys of spring or is that autumn and they are out together for the time being. Eddie (partbred) is a real exciting prospect for us and we are hoping to bring him out under saddle next year. Early indications say he has a sensible head on his shoulders so lets hope so when it comes to backing him after Hoys!
