God, hope my daughter doesn't read this cos she really wanted to come but stable costs decided it wasn't to be this year..... would have cost us 120 quid to bring two ponies so no chance!!
And that was without entries.....
With no prize money it was just a step too far....

If they had kept it the proper Interclub i am sure it would have been ALOT busier.

we went and my boy won the veteran inhand and was 3rd in the inhand show horse. even though we were happy with our results the majority of places confused me. it was quieter than normal but not completely dead.
i think whalton wolf whistle - or something like that - was supreme. in the mixed ridden championships wolf whistle took champion and pickmere top of the morning was reserve

I see what you are saying Bigmama BUT with the Elite (original H/P show) moving over to Grantham we need a show like this back in the N/W so hopefully it will continue as an Open show and we would go there next year instead of Elite.... Added to say..its a shame people take advantage of situations when then are out of class!! I am sure there is NO need to cheat!!

Congratulations on all who have done well at the show. However reading about the overall winners has confirmed that I was right not to bother turning up with my riding club level ponies. I'm not prepared to pay £15 per class to make up the numbers at an open show, although I would have been prepared to pay that for the privilege of representing my club at a club championship.
Roll on Festival of Champions ;D

2 Ridden Show Pony Exceeding 138cm but not exceeding 148cm
Note the rule: No age on jockey and ponies not exceeding 148cms The next class was exceeding 148cms which was riding horse.
Which class would you have entered with a 148cms LHC pony? We entered the class as an intermediate and dressed accordingly as an intermediate jockey. Please enlighten me as to exactly what rules were broken and where was the cheating?

cj67..the show should be entered in the spirit intended, yes there wasn't any ages stated BUT you know the ages and there was another showing class for 148 and over ..but the competition might have been too much for you I suppose!!!

I agree Nici i wont pay £20 when i know alot of higher standard ponies will go yes it is nice to have an open show, but why take a show away that many club members work hard for

cj67 has done nothing wrong .. she entered the correct class on the day and other peeps should note that when entering an OPEN SHOW anything can compete from Olympia/hoys/rihs winner down to riding club beginner HOWEVER, my point was that i think UK showing made a big booboo when changing the show's status at the last moment because the majority of UK showing's competitors come from grass roots level and want a chance at competing at a championship show and going into an evening performance and now that it is an open show, UK showing may now have lost it's 'bread and butter' ... my comment above was in no way aimed personally at the supreme and reserve ~ i was merely pointing out what a high standard yesterday's show had and how i think UK showing will be seriously affected if it loses it's 'regulars' at subsequent shows

I think that part of the reason to make it an open show was down to a lack of interest / organisation on the part of the riding clubs, many of whom (at least last year) had not forwarded competitors details or entry fees until the last minute. this must have been very worrying for the organisers. There was a poll on UK showing website to ask if competitors wanted it to remain an interclub show and presumably there was more support for the change to an open show .

How very sad that uk showing have ruined a good show, it was absolutely dead most of the weekend with most competitors going straight into the evening cos entries for classes had less than ten in. What a disappointment
Its such a shame cos it was really coming together for them, all the comments i have heard up there tonite were bad and most people said they wouldnt bother next year.
Uk showing as a team work really hard and now they have upset all the riding clubs and next year will be even worse.
I heard one club member saying that they had not even had their affiliation fees back, which should have be returned to all clubs as what was there to affiliate to. Another open show.
I know the quality was good and each and everyone that won did fantastic but uk showing have just opened a very big door for other championship shows who hopefully will care about what the competitors wants and put on some top shows, and i for one am looking forward to it

Either way, I have competed at UK Showing for several years (until it stopped being a RC champs this year) and I don't recall there ever being limits on rider ages as there are in affiliateds. Many smaller adults riding ponies are restricted to local showing where the (IMO) ridiculous age limits don't usually exist. As UK Showing used to be a RC show, they didn't impose the limits either. From what I can see, a pony of 148cm should be in the not exceeding 148 classes, not the exceeding 148 classes as 148 doesn't exceed 148!!!!

I went to UK Showing today and would like to say what a lovely and well organised show it was - entries were good today and it was difficult to find a parking spot - I agree with the person who commented about losing the Elite and the NW needing a show like this.
I think that the show was well worth the £15 entry (only £12 before the day) Rosettes and sashes were beautiful and everyone appeared to have had a lovely time.

I too thought it was very quiet and there were lots of empty spaces, the class sizes were down too. At the July show it was so busy. However, in previous years I did think it was unfair of the professionals to enter what was a riding club championship. Maybe there will be more entries next year?I know we have not had the affilation fee returned to my riding club which we paid earlier on this year. I think we should reimbursed.

As far as i know all the competitors were home produced. It was quieter than the Summer show but then the winter ones I have attended always have been.

Where was every body? Had a very good day on Saturday, a better layout from July, temp stables were ok and there was a light for when you came out of the evening performance!! I would of liked it to be kept as inter club too

They might not have had responce from clubs, but i know that atleast every club would have sent nearlly a full team. I know my club would have. the interclub is normally really busy.
