I had a fantasic new forest really well put together and moved super in a Mixed in hand m & m class full of welsh c & d yesterday The forester was 2nd to a black section d who had obviously come for a county practise but was gorgeous. The rest was full of Chestnut and Bay sec c & d, only one disgruntled contender who wasnt happy to be moved down below a pony of more type who on first trot round didnt go well, on individual go went better and on close inspection was a much typier sec d that the more sport horse type sec d i originally had above it. But must say the owner of the forester was thrilled and he totally deserved his place i will find some links to the photographers web site and maybe you will see

We went to a very busy local show yesterday too where the judge was great, we constantly praised her as she didnt put anything overweight high up in the line up, she did loose the plot slightly in the Mountain and Moorland class with the weight issue with some in the line up but the one that won it was a deserved winner.!!! There was a smashing new forest there too which was placed quite high up in the line up and I have to say until this forum had highlighted the breed and my good friend skint got muddled up with a new forest and a D whilst judging (just to remind her) it wasnt a breed I had ever really took much notice off. We totally enjoyed the day, took our baby who is not four till the summer and came home with a 2nd and a 4th out of large classes, to which my daughter was thrilled. It was a pony club show but there were so many people there from county, puk etc and we all said what a good day it had been, and how hard the organisers worked. We all chilled and enjoyed. The highlight of my day though was my good friend falling flat on his face not once but twice while stewarding a couple of classes, we shouldnt laugh but oh how I wish the camerman had been able to photograph 'that bottom and the moment'. It really was a corker.

Although we don't show him in flat classes, we are the fortunate owners of a lovely forest bred NF pony. (a g. son of Peveril Peterborough). He is super safe on the roads. Happy to be ridden in a 10 acre field in only a headcollar. Will jump round a BE intro course. Performs an obedient dressage test and is my son's best friend! He is never naughty - even after a day / week off, and is the straightes mover I have ever seen. His downside is that he can be a bit lazy and behind the leg and a bit cheeky to be caught if he feels he hasn't had adequate grass. He is always on a diet!!!
He has done a couple of worker classes recently and quite enjoyed them. We had lovely comments from a judge (who recognised him straight away as a NF!!).
I have never had any experience of NF's before, but am really enjoying owning this chap. If things go well, we may move up a gear in the workers...........Meanwhile he really is a fab child's (or adults) pony.

Out of Interest Lolly which one were you, i had good strong classes yesterday and had to do what i thought best, re the m & m classes, weight played a big part but i had toalso go on typeyness and movement and unfortunatly i had to place some ponies that were fatter than i would have liked as they were closer to the breed specification, i did have alot of ponies i liked very much hence i brough my very horseydaughte in to judge the bonny pony and handsome horse as there were fun classes and had i judged them it wouldnt have been fun as says judges preference and i like as near perfect as possible where as my daughter was more forgiving than me

ah judge now that would be telling , although a clue would be our not so white stockings, no way was our little treasure standing still to have them cleaned once he got to the exciting show with everything to see. It would be nice to see some more new forests out there, it would so help the popularity of the breed, they are so versatile, and when I think how cheaply they go for at some of the sales, and where they end up its heartbreaking.
