I said i was going to have a minor moan and probably only applies to very few.
BUT, when booking judges for 2010, i always send a SAE, so is it to much to ask for a reply ?
We have even said you can email, text or phone, Im well aware that some of you dont know what commitments etc you have in 2010, but a note to say can we get back to you, or no i cant as soon as possible would be polite, we even send a tick sheet so not even any writing.
Also people say why do you have the same judges blahhhh blahhhh ......... you try getting judges to come from other areas, we provided paid for accomadation and decent milages, yet year after year we get NOOOOOO
Please judges if you are asked to judge as you have your name on a panel, at least let Show Secretaries know one way or another.
To all you prompt judges many thanks
I have another weekend ahead of writing to replacement judges for the ones who have said no, then to the ones who havent replied to remind them if they can reply.
Why stay on a panel if you really are fussy where you go, surley on a panel you should try to accept offers from a wider variety of shows.

I have tried to book judges for shows in the past and find that you have to make up to 30 phone calls before you can get a 'YES'.
Slightly off topic sorry!

Would it help if lists of Panel Judges also specified the maximum distance that each judge is willing to travel? - that way you would know who to approach.

I dont generally ring i feel its best to write first except in an emergency I have found that if you ring in the first instance, at least you usually, often, well sometimes get a yes or no answer staright away. Then you can follow it up with a confirmation letter.

I generally dont like to disturb people, i understand they are busy so a letter normallylets them reply in their own time THOUGH sometimes it can take along time hence my moan, all you have to do is bung it in a post box, text, phone or even email. I get fed up with the phone ringing at all hours and trying to catch people in can be a nightmare x

I always ring first then put in writing as you get a yes or a no there and then instead of waiting for a reply. x

Emmajane I love to receive a letter and always reply if there is a written request. If I get a phonecall I always ask the show to confirm in writing. I'm just bookig judges now for a show I'm helping out with for the first time and I've found it easier to phone then confirm in writing with a reply paid envelope. I have to say that at no time on either the BSHA or SHBGB are you asked if you are not prepared to travel or not judge on certain days as there is an assumption that this is not an issue. You are asked to provide a CV on your original application though and I think anyone who isn't honest about how committed they are needs to be upfront about it and this should be taken into account. I have noted some persistant offenders who do seem to wait "for a better one to come along" though and some who have treble booked themselves.

I always have time for anyone asking about judging and ALWAYS answer their letters- so please don't start -Emmajane- taring us with the same brush- its as bad on all the judges threads on here. Yes we all have dates we are already booked for - its the nature of the beast.
