I lost most of the mane last winter therefore this year i swore i was not putting sherpa on or rug with neck. Ive ended up putting rug with neck on and Im paranoid now about mane falling out
Do the lycra necks without the face prevent it??? Would I leave it on full time?
Any other ideas

Have I just been lucky? have been using rugs with hoods for many years (Rambos) for different horses and have never had a mane rubbed. My grey wears a snuggy 24/7 as well and he had the most beautiful mane.

I have snuggy jams and Dress Circle hoods!
Also use Alva Sweetitch Controller for the mane or (alva mane and feather conditioner), it stops them itching and keeps the mane soft so it doesnt go briittal when it has the hood or up the neck rugs on all teh time.

I have done really well this year, as normally mine all lose manes.
Since finding out about MEGATEK, which I spray(diluted) onto their manes daily, I have one pony (who is normally the first to lose hers) with a perfect mane- even though she is in snuggy hood 24/7.
New mare Lilly - perfect mane. She is in lycra hood at night and snuggy during the day. No probs.
Only eldest sons pony has started to lose hers, despite megatek, so sadly her neck is now naked, as would rather deal with mud, than no mane!

I reckon that it depends a lot on the cut of the rug with neck and the conformation of the set of neck on shoulder. The rugs often seem to be cut for TBs where the neck comes lower out of the shoulder than my Ds, and I reckoned the additional pressure on the lower part of the crest tended to thin the mane out. A standard rug with no neck with a snuggy turnout hood did the trick.

S&O - I use about the same proportions as you would to make up orange squash! About an inch I suppose in the bottom of an empty show shine spray bottle. Works well enough for mine, so dont seem to need it any more concentrated.

Shall try that then, need to buy some really, but as my blimming clippers packed up today (that will cost) I shall be nicking some of my daughter's megatek which she keeps in the bathroom for her own highly bleached mane. By rights she should be totally bald with all the chemicals she puts on her hair (and the hairdryer is going as I type which will be followed by the straighteners) so megatek must work!
I am worried now as I have just bought my connemara a new rug in a different design which I am putting on tomorrow due to this minus six degrees we are promised and I shall be watching like a hawk in case a hair of his handsome head gets rubbed out.

I am a Megatek fan too. WE put it on a couple of times a week, neat and use Snuggy Hoods even under full neck rugs.

Messydesk do you put it on neat and leave it in? For how long without washing, don't really want to be washing in this freeze?
