Please consider your horses/ponies if out this weekend, the ground is so so hard, hate too hear the hairies and the sec D's thundering round for ages and ages in the ring knowing how hard the ground is for this time of year, so early in the season. Ice tight etc always a good thing to have on the box. I am not going to show until we get some more give in the ground. Saying that i believe three counties are watering for the Spring Festival.

ginger - you obviously didn't have the lovely rain we've had for most of this week! Still we did need it for the grass!

I am only surprised this thread wasnt started a while ago as the ground here in Worcestershire is akin to concrete! I have heard several people say that unless we're careful there will be a lot of ponies suffering windgalls, splints etc - most of the farmers at a pony club rally two weeks ago were saying they'd been caught out rolling as it had been too wet to get the tractors on and now in such a short space of time its gone rock hard. I just hope I can pick the best places to go to where I know its old meadow/surfaces etc... Agree with the Ice tight and also have a marvellous pair of "wet boots" a friend gave me to use after cross country. Also sticking to the two classes only rule!

We are on clay in kent and we have CRACKS!!! My grass is barely growing and I have 2 foals due. One of the brood mares is on the garden. I have been able to water one of my paddocks, but its been reseeded so we cant graze that, I've had them harrowed, but we cant roll yet. Its awful. It was raining just up the road but here - zilch. They sky is bright blue as I look out of the window. I wont be showing anyway for at least a couple of months as last week I was dragged by two startled ponies, foot went down an unrolled and very hard divot and voila - torn ligaments.

hi i too am in kent and seem to have had cracks for weeks the grass has grown well so far and i know of lots of ponies who have had laminitus so the grass must be doing well even without the rain. What makes me laugh though is us brits moan when it rains and then we moan coz its sunny what would we talk about if not the weather in this country
