Don't you have some form of written contract with a producer? If you haven't then I guess there is nothing to stop you taking your horse whenever you want, although depending on what kind of professional relationship you have with them, I would suggest giving a month's notice.....particularly when a producer's livelihood is possibly dependant on the number of horses on his/her yard.

It's certainly polite to give a month's notice. Obviously if something dramatic has happened that necessitates your quick removal, then do whatever you have to, but otherwise I would try not to burn bridges, give your month's notice and then move.

I agree be polite and give notice unless something major has happened. To be honest if you are polite about it and have a genuine reason for it (ie moivng areas etc) most producers are fine about it. It is something that does often happen and is part of the business. I ahd been at the same producers for a while but we moved due to horse change and other changes and they were fine about it. We were honest and polite and we all go and cheer each other on now.

Or if you are that desperate to move, you could leave tomorrow but still pay a month's money for May.
