If you think how much it costs to get your HGV liscence then you might understand why more money is needed for this extra qualification. My RI has decided to get her HGV liscence and thinks it will cost £1000 - how many people on a grooms salary have £1000 to spare?
I don't think people who go into to grooming do it for the money so more money and a better situation may not be the only thing that attracts applications. If you are a famous rider you can probably get someone to work twice as hard for half the money! Some top grooms like the status of working with famous riders/horses and also learning from them and the chance perhaps to help ride and bring on the young horses and compete in some of the novice classes or have lessons especially if they can bring their own horse.
Not everyone likes working on their own - some people prefer to be part of a team with other grooms to talk to. I imagine working with a family could be quite intense or lonely if there is just the person and the family and not much interaction with others.
Unfortunately your position may well be comfortable but it probably is not a career enhancing position and does not have the status associated with being yard manager for a big competition yard so it may take a bit longer to fill.

jonp, in order to employ a groom to meet youre standards and to drive lorry, your wages are rubbish, we pay professionals £10 per hour for a forty hour week, ie 400 quid, plus overtime, what you offer is just not enough, regardless of the standard of the accom. the old adedge pay peanuts you get monkeys springs to mind. I think 230 a week to look after 2 horses and have a free house is great!!!God I wish i was near you i do a hell of alot more at the moment for that money!!!

Wow! This job sounds absolutely perfect! Great surroundings, good wage, accommodation on site plus grooming for shows - everything I would leave my current job for! But unfortunately I too only have a car licence plus I have my own horse at home.
Good luck with finding the right person though, I cant believe you dont already have someone with an offer like that!
