Do you have a favorite bit for a fussy mouth - one that can be used in the showring? We are riding a lovely mare, late broken at 5 last year who didnt have her terrible teeth sorted out until after a showing season, who will work in an outline for about 3 or 4 strides then fuss fuss then good again. She's ridden in a jointed thin (it seems to me) Wilkie - cant help wondering if a much kinder rubber bit would suit her more. She's very forward and I think the normal jockey finds her a bit much so its a fight fight situation. The owners want my daughter to ride her but it will be hard to get them together more than once a week....I have a little Happy Mouth Wilkie which most ponies seem to like but would welcome suggestions (especially cheap ones!)

I had all kinds of problems getting a bit that my Fell gelding was settled in - emailed the bit bank in January and she advised a Neule Schule trans snaffle - it was like night and day and he is much happier (thankfully it is dressage legal too so he can get out a bit over next winter to educate him a bit more).

We had an Arab mare that was megga fussy, to the point of lying down!!! but we found that a straight bar snaffle for every day work and for showing straight bar pelham were the anwser, must have worked as she qualified HOYs.

For a cheap option, try a bog-standard Mullen mouth. I know it sounds very tame compared to Wilkie/Pelham etc., but you may be very pleasantly amazed! I tried the bit bank last week, and she's given it up.

There is another company www.shop4bits.com or maybe .co.uk who do bit trials - between £3 and £5 for 30 days
