Just been down to my horses in the field, should be the happiest time of year for them, but they run to the gate to say what have I done to them. Hard ground, bearley any grass, looks like they are in the country and western films when they run off, a cloud of dust is all I see. No wind only lovely sun (not complaining on my behalf of that) but the most irritating thi ng is FLIES >:(all around them, eyes running even though we spay with fly repellent and they all have fly sheets on, apart from my filly 12 months new fly sheet on sunday now in shreds as we found lying on the field. Would appreciate any good home made remedies as all the stuff on the market is c...p and costs a fortune. PLEASE HELP I AM IN DESPAIR AND SO ARE MY BEST FRIENDS! HELP!!!!!

Be carefull with citronella!!! We had a pony that was allergic to it and it literally burnt his skin off!!! but with the ponies that aren't allergic it is the best thing I've ever found for flies!

I use maggot oil for fly strike in sheep, I have found it very good. I get it from my local animal health shop.

Biting Midge cream from Equimins is very good. (it seems to get rid of all flies and you can put it on yourself).

Buy a fly rug and a face mask- end of problem!
Personally I think the Amigo rugs are the best - stop coat fade too!!! Must admit that we have a Masta now in its 5th year!!!We also use them for travelling in warm weather. The face masks we have are Premier - they were on offer at one of the bigger shows last year!!! The ultimate fly rug would be a Boett.
When you wash them, use a lavender oil or tea tree oil in the fabric conditioner and this will also act as a repellent.
