Having just checked the timetable I'm a bit disappointed as my 14.2 is entered in the RIHS Show pony class and the small Intermediate class, if by some miracle I'm 1st or 2nd in the show pony class then I'll either have to forfeit the intermediates or forfeit the championship for the show ponies in the castle arena as both scheduled to be on at 5.10pm, also read if you don't come forward for the championship you will also forfeit your prize money I know this is premature thinking and I'll probably not be in the top 2 in the show pony class, but will anyone else be in the same situation?and or what would they do?

well anything cld win/happen in the intermediates if that is any help???!! Not sure to many will be going but i wldnt give up my place in the 14.2 championship for it without a shadow of a doubt. Guess it also depends on what you want to qualify for?? Maybe opens up the old debate about 14.2's competing in intermediate classes on the same day again, if it was same rule as the workers it wldnt be an issue!! Good luck whatever you decide/happens x

I'm just browsing around the threads today, getting over a stupid migraine, and this thread caught my eye. What I'm wondering, is how a Show Pony can compete in horse class? This is a genuine query, and in no way am I 'having a go.' I would have thought that a 14.2 would be ineligible for horse classes, or if it's in horse classes it would have measured out as a 14.2. In other words, don't you have to choose whether it's a horse or a pony? How can it be both? Forgive my rambling - stupid migraine makes my brain go to mince.

Whilst we are on this issue - can a pony compete in 15 hand and int shp classes on the same day? I had assumed that they same rule applied as for workers (ie on the day you are either a 15 hander OR int. Except at winter/summer champs, RIHS and Hoys).

No 15shp can compete in int sht classes the same as 14.2's can compete in int classes. It all comes down to money at the end of the day. There was talk years ago that the height limit would be upped in int classes to stop this cross over but it never happened. 14.2's do very well in the int class, in fact last year a 14.2 won hoys and 3rd pony was 14.2 as well. My arguement is how they can win both classes taking 2 tickets on the same day, surely there shld be a difference but oh well it wont ever change as it makes 14.2/int classes huge!!

Ah well, I suppose it should make these "cross over" animals very saleable!!!! We do 15 hand shp but have never done ints as ours is quite a lightweight type (but def not a srt). Surely they should be different types??

You would think!! In my opinion a small srt should be a little horse capable of doing hack classes and going like a hack performing more advanced moves. A show pony should be exactly that a pony. I have to say though i dont think height is such an issue as in i know 14.2 ponies that are much better intermediates but they shld have to decide which class they do like riding horses etc at the beginning of the season or at least be limited to the one class at the shows. Unfortuntely as well i think often the 14.2's do very well in the class as they are pretty and move more flashy than the intermediate type. I think it comes down to judges being taught what a more intermediate type is otherwise surely it is a large SP class, in which case shldnt it have a lower height limit on it like the other show pony classes??? I have to say this is quite an old discussion which goes on a lot but nothing ever changes!

The small SRT winner was Crafton King of Swing and the Large SRT winner was Ruby Tuesday.
