What is he in at the moment? I would suggest either a mullen mouth or a french link? Or have you already tried those? Definitely not a single jointed bit.

should also have said that he hates stainless steel bits. i struggle to find bits made of other materials that are thin enough for him. happy mouths are just to fat for him. at the mo he is in a neue schule loose ring french link. he had been fine in this for a while but the other day caused bruising

Hmm, difficult one. I think the Neue Schule bits are made in a different material, can't remember exactly what but I'll try and find a link. Also, have you thought about a bitless bridle just while his mouth recovers? ETA: Yes it's a copper alloy they call Salox, heres some info: www.neueschulebits.com/acatalog/The_Neue_Schule_Salox_Material.htmlThey don't seem to do a non jointed bit, plenty of french link styles, and they also do waterfords which might be an option. Edited again! Durr, just re-read your post and realised you already using the salox material, still think the waterford might be something to try though.

A KK is you need something dressage legal though the waterfords being collapsible might work.
The neue schule should be ok though. What about getting the dentist to advise?
