Mary & George were on their way from their farm in Gloucestershire to visit the Dairy Show at Olympia. They only ever visited London twice a year, for Smithfield and the Dairy Show, so they liked to make the most of it.
Mary suggested to George that she would go and look round the shops before meeting him at the Show later in the day,and off she went.
"Well," thought George, "I might as well enjoy myself a bit before going to the Show", and walked down the road until he met a 'street-lady'. "How much?" he asked. "One hundred pounds" was the reply. "I can't afford that. I've only got twenty-five quid to spare," said George, disappointed.
"You'll only get rubbish for that sort of money" she replied. So George decided he'd give it up as a bad job and made his way to the Dairy Show. Later on in the day George and Mary met up and were on their way back to the station, arm in arm, when they bumped into the 'street-lady' who George had spoken to earlier.
"There you are," she said, "I told you you would only get rubbish for twenty-five pounds!"
