OH had the flu jab the other week and was pretty bad afterwards. kids were both poorly couple of weeks before Christmas.
I have apparently a weakened immune system but decided against having the jab after seeing how hubby was. I kept him well away from me. last time I had flu I was in bed for 4 weeks and off work for nearly six weeks.

Most people describe their colds as flu...if you've ever had flu then you'd never again mistake one for the other! Flu completely floors you for weeks ....it's awful, you feel as though you're dying and don't care

I was floored over Xmas and finally ended up at hospital on 27th, apparently I had pleurisy. The pain was horrendous and I just could not breathe, thought I was dying and quite frankly didn't care if I was!! Still abit fragile but so much better!!

definitely not just a cold, it started on boxing day, horrendous cough which keeps me up through the night and its making the top of my ribcage hurt! Runny nose, sneezing and an earache which comes and goes. I get out of breath walking downstairs, dont really want to eat! Hardly left my bed for two days. grrrrr. Im also getting really spaced out from all the different medicine im having - cold and flu tablets, drinks, cough medicine, paracetamol, ibuprofen (not all at the same time!!) Ive also given it to my mother, so we were both housebound today. thankfully, my sister and friend has done all the horses and she us dinner tonight (the only thing ive eaten all day). oh and ive drunk about 5 litres of water & lucozade!
hahaha what an essay, i hate being ill and ive got got one week left here in cornwall before i go back to uni and i wanted to spend that riding! booooo xxxx

I wonder how many have the flu whom have had the flu jab? Anyone ladies? the men don't count because they can get man flu whatever they do to try to prevent.
I was told you cannot get flu from the flu jab because it is inactive. I am sure the nurses on here will be able to confirm or otherwise.
I had the jab and haven't had flu despite everyone around me being in a bad way.

I think a lot of people say they have the flu, when what they have is a really bad cold - a pregnant lady a couple of towns along from me was on the news before christmas, she was in a coma in hospital with swine flu and it was touch and go for a while, thankfully she made it home for christmas with her family. If you have proper flu you aren't able to get out of bed or do anything for yourself. Not saying you don't feel properly awful though.

my parents both have had it and we live in close proximity, have felt like I've been getting the flu hardly able to move but then I've gone out to do horses feeling like death warmed up and think the minus 20 temps has killed anything off! is the only thing I can think of that has stopped me being floored in my bed
with the milder temps I can see many more people getting flu - its a worry

Our household has been floored by this horrendus virus for over two weeks now - a sure sign of whether its a cold or worse is the fact you dont care whether you live or die and believe me you REALLY dont care what happens to you, if you have it properly. Ahuge thank you to my 18 year old son Dan, who has seemed to have had a speeded up version of the virus but then has soldiered on and single handedly looked after my nine ponies (six inside) when i physically could not. He is not the tidiest of workers but everything has been fed, watered and bedded down - guess i will have lots of sweeping to do, but thats the least of my worries. Thanks again Dan - good job i got you a good xmas pressie x

I've got the lurgy and had it for about 4 weeks now. Had a few days in bed and the rest of the time just generally feeling lousy and tired and coughing and spluttering all over the place. Fed up now and just want it to push off!

To me, Flu is when you literally cannot move and feel dreadful, is this what you mean? If so, i haven't had it. But i have seen a lot of people going around and carrying on with lives saying 'i have the flu', to me, that's a cold and i have had that one, lasts about a month.

I had a sort of really bad cold at the beginning of December. Don't think it was the flu as have had that really bad a few times before and this wasn't as bad although was in bed for a week. Then everyone else seemed to get it as I was getting better but it seems to be coming back around again as feeling a bit rubbish today.
My mum had really bad flu after having the flu jab though but could have been a coincidence.

A lot of people who have heavy colds think they have flu, real flu will keep you off your feet for at least 10 days. I 've had flu twice in my life and really felt like I was dying. I sincerly hope everyone just has a heavy cold. And I hope you all get well soon.
