Ah Chorro, you are so kind xx Totally agree with the cold/flu debate... we all had flu at the beginning of December, and i totally sympathise with anyone who has this awful 'bug' it is really awful and i honestly think only rest, plenty of fluid, paracetamol is the only way to get through it. I hope all of you get well very soon and we can start 2011 feeling a lot better.

I have a cold at the moment. in my first year in uni, I had flu and a chest infection at the same time. Ended up with a fever so high I was hallucinting and after leaving hospital I spent 3 weeks in bed and believe me it takes a heck of alot to keep me in bed. I'm the girl who went to a horse show 2 days after having to be cut out of a car and cracking my sternum!
I have had the flu vaccine as I work in care. I had swine flu before the first time hit the news because my aunt spent 2 weeks in mexico then came home, she had a horrific case of the flu and then everyone else in the family (we looked after her) went down with the flu. About a week after that the whole swine flu pandemic hit the news!

Cerys & I both have coughs and colds, but definitely not flu. I've had flu twice in my life, and I don't ever want to get it again. I agree with others who have posted - if you really do have flu you won't be getting up and carrying on with your life, you will be flat out, unable to move.
There are two "tests" for flu - firstly for mothers - if you can hear your child crying but just can't move to do anything about it, it's probably flu. And if you just don't care that your child is crying, it's definitely flu. And for everyone else - someone leaves a winning lottery ticket on the other side of the room, and it's yours if you can get to it within half an hour - if you're out of bed like a shot, you have a cold. If you turn over and don't give a d**n - you have flu.

My Doctor told me the difference between a cold and flu..
If a £50 pound note was laying out on the lawn you could go out and get it, then you have cold.
If you had flu you would leave it out on the lawn because you wouldn't be able to get up and fetch it!!
It's true I had flu 10 years ago and if there had been a £1000 laying on the lawn I would have to have left it there..! No actually..... I would have phoned a friend to pick it up for me!

I had flu type symptoms that started just before the October half term and 4 weeks later I was still very poorly. I eventually decided enough was enough and went to my doctor to find out I actually had pneumonia!!! Luckily it was a "walking" type, so didn't need to be hospitalised and two lots of very strong antibiotics, I'm now much better, but not 100%

Came down with it on Xmas day, and still flat out in bed a week later!
I'm self employed, so no sick pay either!
I'm so frustrated, so much to do, no energy to do anything.......

I had the flu about 14 years ago, if you have ever had proper flu you would never get it muddled up with a virus/ bad cold, couldn't do anything, aching muscles, headache, temperature, not really a snotty nose, the cough came at the end and didn't feel right for about a month. Hope everyone who feel poorly are better soon x

No cold or flu here at all....I hope I have not jinxed us now!
Daughter and I had the flu jab at the beginning of the week, no after effects at all part from tender arm for the afternoon.
Hubby too busy with work (his words) to get the flu jab...and people going into his place of work quite poorly as they don't get paid for days of sick so I am couting the days for him to start feeling rough.

we all had chest infections/coughs/colds/feeling totally knackered from beginning of December to christmas week but as you have all said not flu as I could still get up to do ponies but was then a waste of space for anything else. Kept saying it was lack of sleep because Amy was not sleeping from coughing.
THEN discovered friend diagnosed with swine flu and apparently this time round lots of people are getting it and not realising because it is appears to be a mild flu like virus unless their are other complications that the persons immune system is depressed eg asthma, diabetes etc and then it is more apparent and serious.
So maybe we have all had swine flu and not realised it. Someone told me we had got and I told them not to be so melodramatic !!!!

My daughter was ill all over christams. Was ill for about 7-10 days with very high tempreture that despite regualr Calpol would just not come down. she lot loads of weight and was generally very unwell indeed, bless her! I have been ill for past week, not sure if it is a cold or flu but feel rubbish! My head feels like it is going to explode, I suffer from headaches but have never had one like this before and even getting off the couch to go to the toilet is and effort. Loads of it about!

I never want to have flu again. Spent 10 days being violently sick lost 1 stone in weight and eventually was given an antiemetic. GP wouldnt let me anywhere near the surgery and spoke to me over the phone.
Horror of horrors I have at least 3 pregnant women in hospital with either flu or H1N1 flu, so my unit is on high alert in case they deliver.
