Just had a look at the new rule book and it seems as though we only have one plaited class now so if you have a 12.2 pony you have to jump a 3ft 5" class! What a shame to have lost the 13.2 sectionas the younger jockeys just cant compete against 20 yr olds over that height course or have the knowledge to produce as polished a test. I know they are introducing M&Ms but not everyone has one and really this was such a good class for the true event type of pony. Gutted!!!! What does anyone else think?

I thought it would be a brill class for the M&M's but there is only 1 class for them as well - so Shetlands have to jump same height as Connies - 84cms!

Isn't there a small & large breeds?
I havent had anything to do this before. What does entail, do you have to be a member of PUK. I am guessing there is a emi-final at the summer champs and the final is at Burghley. Is that correct?

Quite agree with Heath. At the risk of being controversial, I can't see that there is any relevance in holding an m&m class. It is an event pony class. The right sort of native pony will star in it, as an event pony, but I really don't want either myself or my children eventing shetlands, much as I love them in a different sphere, for which there are other much more appropriate classes.
This is one of those classes which didn't need fixing as it wasn't broke, surely?

Bopper, its a really good class where you do a dressage test followed straight on by a sj/xc round then an in hand section with all the marks added up. The final is at Burghley and its just great for the children to ride round there. Now with just one open height section it will have taken away the younger children as you really wouldnt want to overface small ponies by asking them to jump a 3ft 5" course! Its such a shame as it was a good introduction to eventing for them.

You dont need to be a member of PUK to go to one of the qualifiers but to go to the final you have to be. The first 3 in each class qualify. Events are held around the country. Go onto PUK website to see them (they prob arent up yet but the rule book is). Good Luck, its a great class

There is a small and large section for the m&m's and the normal class, its just run together. I think(dont take my word for it guys!)

Not sure you are right pipandwill. I contacted PUK office and you can have the classes split into height sections at the qualifiers but at the final they will all jump the same track so I think its better that the ponies who qualify are capable of jumping the track at the final so they are not overfaced. It will mean that the older jockeys/bigger ponies will be at an advantage at the final so I personally think the first rounds should be more like what they are going to have to face when they get there, but also think its very sad to lose the small section as it was a great stepping stone for eventing for a lot of children.

I have just looked on thier web, yes heath you are right, I think its really unfair how its not split, it wouldnt take long to adjust the fences, now my poor 13.2 has to jump 3'5 great!!!

apart from when u get to the final u only have to jump about 80cms anyway, and surely itll just work like a mixed height class, but yeh ive been to the final three times, gd experience with diff ponies each time, gd atmosphere, but i certainly wudnt go again, so hence i wudnt try and qualify again as that would be a waste of a ticket

I think it is so unfair they have mixed the m&m classes and the plaited class, when i did the m&m class, I saw no 122cm and when i did the plaited class, the smallest pony was 13.2. Before, most heights of ponies could jump them. But if you do qualify its fabulous! I went a few yrs ago with my pony, i was so nervous, i was chuffed because i ended up 9th!
