As the title says really, those of you who drive, what do you look for when purchasing a pony for ride and drive?

A good driving pony must be calm and well mannerd, which will come from good training they must also have strength and soundness and be intelligent, which will give them staying power and good movement in the vehicle. Pure breed native ponies have driving in their blood.

All of the above but most importantly something extremely safe and unflappable, used to lots of scary noises as with blinkers on a pony cant see what is coming.

I agree with all those above, something that isn't flighty or nervous. Must be bomb proof if there is such a thing, have a brain & listen.
My driving horse was ride & drive and a real gentleman. He was used for weddings, fates, sea front tours, pub promotions and even took father Christmas to schools and round the local town. He was 100% with traffic, trains, going over bridges, church bells, party poppers, confetti etc & would stand for hours. But didn't like Bands or balloons so would never take him anywhere where we might come across these, and although asked on many occasions, I would never take him to any carnivals it wasn't worth the risk for all concerned. If buying a driving horse/pony I would always take someone with you who is experienced in this field.
