Flat M&M RI quals. Smalls - Mydtarren the Maverick, not sure if this has already qual? B&C's - grey B, didn't catch the name? Could've been something Robin? Thought ES was hard done by in this class, she did a great show from where I was stood? NF/Connie - not sure of winner (!) but Tyan Tudor Prince was second. Hairies - Fell ridden by Jess Goodier, looked rather lively. B was champ and the fell res.

Post by Judging on May 31, 2007 17:26:23 GMT
Hey did anyone else think that the judging for the MnM riddens was absurd. the second one (that qualified) went desperately bad Jessica Goodier did a good show the 4th one wrong legged it. I was pulled in 7th and did a decent show and didnt come anywhere. When i went to look at my marks i had third to last final marks. I was gutted, i thought i deserved the keep my place as some of the horses she had were unbelievable.

the woman was mental - i was there in 2 classes my 1st was naughty in show - so deserved to be dumped - but my 2nd pony went well and i got ride marks 38 for the naughty pony and 37 for good one - bizarre in anyones eyes - She was v old and the stewards had to point her in the direction of the next pony to judge in the confirmation I think the BSPS should do a review

I was suprised at what made the final lineup only because there did not seem to be a pattern to it and the examples that she did choose I didn't feel the were the best, with two exceptions. Thats just IMHO though. The B&C's were interesting as the one that won was nice but there were others in there that I thought shone and performed better shows? Thats showing though!

:)oh dear what was the problem with the one which qualified - other than that it beat you? What class are you talking about, as I should have gone. I have no problem with not coming anywhere in a class as long as the ponies that were placed deserved to be there and all im saying is that some of the ponies did not deserve to be there. (4th wrong legged it). its jus my opinion and its the highlands, fells, dales and sec D class.

Its only my opinion but i believe the one that was pulled top and dropped to second deserved to win. The judging was apalling, maybe they should get some one who can actually find the ponies next time.

I personally felt there were nicer B/C's in there. However, it did a nice show and if she had decided that this was her favourite then I could see no reason to drop it.

Is it just me or should the stewards have an entry numbers sheet - yesterday in the ridden m and m they went by the catalogue - both stewards had 1 - both looking through them with the judge

Is there actually a rule against using catalogues in the ring?? I know that there was a lot of noise a while back and some of the bigger societies were considering making a rule that they were not allowed in the ring. Did this ever happen or has it slipped through. A couple of big shows i have competed in this year have had catalogues in the ring blatently.

Copied from Judges rules WPCS
"Judges are forbidden to refer to the show catalogue during the show."

Same thing happend at Glanusk stallion show in the ridden sec D class. Steward and judge confering together using catalogue to check entries NOT entry no sheet. Watched them check they had pulled the "correct ones" into the line up by walking down the line behind them and checking the numbers against the catalogue.

having stewarded at national champs for many years I have always had a catalogue to check the ponies as they came in the ring. However I was always told that under no circumstances must the judge consult the catalogue. In fact it never went in the ring. A responsible judge would not consider looking at one. In fact one judge (judging workers) wanted to know details of an earlier driving class and asked me to look it up for him so he would not have looked at a catalogue. Thats how it should be.

The SHP judge was taken ill. Who was the man who stepped in? I thought he was a good judge and sorted the classes correctly!

No point crying over spilt milk now as the show is already confined to the archives. Like many other threads here the fundamental thing is that the judging standards and rules need to be adheared to. Personally i dont think the judge should be able to review the marks they give the other ponies until the end of the class. The judge should hand a slip of paper with the mark to the steward after each individuals confirmation and ride section and the judge cant look at the marks sheet or ask the steward what points they awarded for any other ponies during the class. Sounds long winded but hope you can understand

I would never allow a judge to have access to a catalogue until he/she had finished all classes how naughty, Just be sure it was a catlogue our schedules and catalogues look very alike, schedules are ok and sometimes needed for the allocation of special awards but very bad, i mean we use judges books which have numbers listed in from the catlogue, but if it is the case VERY bad and naughty !!!

Hi the replacement judge for the SHP was John Bourne, excellent judge, and yes I thought he did a good job too... although we weren't competing, I did watch and he was very fair - unlike some of the other judging!!!

Thanks. Will remember him. Had ours 1st & rsv champ - though our class certainly wasn't the strongest class in the shp section!!!

Thanks, he liked ours and we won our class & got reserve. Must admit that ours wasn't the strongest class in the shp section though!
