Anyone got any tip for quickly healing one of those horrible rope burns. Our pony got his leg thro the cirsingle of his rug (dont ask) and it has caused a rope type burn under his fetlock. It is very gungy and wide and I just wondered if anyone had any good ideas for healing it quickly. I initially covered it in Sudocreme which lifting all the scabs off but it is still quite scabby and keeps opening. I gave him some anti biotics as a precaution
Could kick myself as we have missed three pre-entered show - but thats the way its goes

Calendula cream if you can get it, find it also encourages hair growth.

Put honey on it. It heals and stops proud flesh, then put fly gel above and below. Learned this trick from my grandfather who was a "nags man" I also have his recipe book for cure alls, and its really amazing. he has one that gets rid of capped hocks but that another thread.

I vot for honey too. Not you budget stuff though. I was told which to get - can't remember. Still much cheaper than a vet prescribed cream....although I also sweat by Flamazine for most types of slow healing wounds.

burns are horrid WET things. In my experience, the more creams and gels you apply whilst they are open, just serve to keep them wet. Dry it up with wound powder, Cicatrin etc. and once sealed!!- apply as much hair regrowth, proud flesh reducer etc as you like, but powder it dry and get a good clean crust on it first- and when it cracks open... more powder. GoodLuck fora speedy- clean - scab. In the nicest possible way.

go to the chemist and buy some JELONET they are gauze sheets that are soaked in some kind of parrafin wax they are the best thing ever for burns they use these in hospitals for burns i found out about these years ago due to a red haired friend having to be admitted into hospital due to severe sunburn these gauzes are fantastic and they help skin heal without a scar. Recently my husband tried to make some chips and all the boiling fat came over the top of the pan and all over his wrist the skin bubbled up like a piece of plastic and these gauzes worked like a miracle they stop infection and let the skin heal quickly. about £6.50 for a pack of 10 every house should have some.
