Have received a letter today asking for an extra £5.00 for an olympia class, presume it was for Royal Windsor as it was not included originally. Would not normally mind but last year, paid my NPS membership (which was cashed in February) went to a show end of March and won ridden silver medal. New card hadn't come through and just handed in current card. Medal was taken off us and given to reserve as wasnt up to date. I know this was nothing compared with poor person who qualified Olympia and didnt present card in ring but seeing how they do not bend their rules an inch when we make a mistake, how can they spend the money sending out all these letters and just don't swallow the cost.

I thought the same, a bit much i think.
Working it out - say approx 100 ponies entered royal windsor, that's £500 they want back. Which equates to probably 1 family with their ponies entering the summer champs. - Not a huge expensive to ask them to absorb is it?

I was a little shocked to receive this letter, I could not understand where this £5 was comming from (I know there is a £5 levy)
The olympia class at the NPS final is more expensive then any of the other classes to enter anyway so I can not see the justification for this additional £5.

Am I a bit behind? Who didn't qualify for olympia because they forgot their card?

Have to say I am shocked at this request too. It just proves that the Olympia system has already been changed with far too much haste. If they (the NPS)had given themselves, the members and the show organises more time (ie a seasons notice) before changing the system this problem would have been avoided . I only hope the next rule change affecting the Olympia qualification is given alot more thought and time before it is put into play.

The letter was rather vague. It needed to be clearer and specify which shows were involved.

I know that the letter was in connection with Royal Windsor. The only reason I know this is that Windsor is the only Olympia that I entered but for those who have entered several it must of been a little confusing.
There were actually 127 entries at Windsor - at £36.50 per class that makes a total of £4336. Taking off prize money of say £1000 in total to include rosettes - that means that Windsor made £3636 on these classes alone. Perhaps the NPS should ask Windsor for a contribution as the cost of entry at this show is so high anyway?
I for one have no intention of paying the £5 - the NPS should of thought the decision through before implementing any change.

Abe, I think they are refferring to the pony at NPS Scotland last year that went champion to qualify for Olympia and they didn't have the card in the kid's pocket. I think it was a Shetland. I believe they came all the way up from the South of England so must have been double-gutted to lose it this way.
