Please be advised there are NO entries on the day at Derbyshire Festival - 10th June - so if you havent entered you can NOT compete this weekend. Good news the NCPA Pony of the Year is back at Somerford park - great news for all competitors Please PM for any details on any of above

I'll be at both! I love the NCPA shows As a show secretary myself, i cannot believe that this show has so much money in the bank, that they will not take late entries, or entries on the day. Surely every little helps, and i know it does not take so much man power, just to let people enter on the day. I can understand the large county shows ie. Royal, Yorkshire and RI, as they have a glossy brochure to print, but come on, this is Derbyshire Festival of showing.....

I totally agree with the fact there are NO entries on the day - as a competitor it is good that i can buy a catalogue on the day - know exactly how many are entered so you can plan your day - and not have lots more none listed entries making classes longer, hence waiting around forever on ponies ready to go in.
And of course it stops people who enter on the day bouncing cheques on you! - which as an 'entries secretary' - you will be know about.
IF they do have a healthy bank account - and i am interested to know how you would know this - surely IF it has its a credit to this NPCA branch - for having such good business sense!

Derbyshire Festival is held at Somerford because back in the day no suitable venue could be found in Derbyshire and Somerford has proved to be a great success. The branch does hold 2 other shows in the county so all are well catered for. Somerford suddenly became available last weekend for the Pony of the Year, due to the cancellation of the BHS Champs, altho Eland Lodge is a fantastic venue for the Open Show a lot of people felt it would not be big enough for Pony of the Year.

There aren't ever many people who want to enter on the day. I think that it is a shame that there are people who thought they could not go but now they can and still cant go anyway. That make sense?

We would have gone with 3 ponies if they were able to take late entries...only reason I didnt enter before the day was down to the fact we were going to go to Royal Cornwall today, in the end OH couldnt get the time off to come with me to RC so we were stuck with no where to go and Ncpa Derbys would have been a nice show. Fully understand the problems a lot of show secretaries have with bouncing cheques these days so what about Late entries on the day Cash only ...which quite a few shows I have noticed are now doing? We may go to Smallwood now but they dont have the same range of classes but can at least take one beast for an outing as they take late entries. Good news POY back at Somerford a lot closer for us now

Most of the entries we take at our show in May (Stevenage) are 'on the day'. You run the risk with the weather etc that people wont come but they always seem to show up! We have RIHS qualifiers and see no reason why entries for shows have to shut so early (unless you produce a swanky catalogue I guess).

Catalogues are v.useful, swanky or otherwise, specially if you are interested in breeding etc. Entries on the day can be a bit of a nightmare with manpower being so scarce at the moment,I can see that early and late season it is a good idea to have entries on the day but all the big shows close entries so we are all used to it.

Oh dont get me wrong Demelza, catalogues are VERY useful (also saves 100s of people coming up to the secretarys and asking how many in the classes!!). I think most people are used to the early closing dates of the bigger shows now anyway but why do they all seem to come in April (V expensive month!!!)??!
Sorry, we seem to have digressed from the original nature of this thread, perhaps we ought to start another one if we want to discuss this further?
