Just when you think things can't get worse the annoying puppy we kept from the Labradoodledor litter crept into the lorry and despite a multitude of things to eat, chose Georgie's show hat - not the harness just the bloody button thing on the top! So, as she is now riding a novice showpony for someone and knowing she has to look immaculate as the pony (hard for us!) I had to rush out and buy a new one - thank god the child benefit had come in so only had to add £60 odd quid.....now my question is this - can we get the old one recovered? Anybody done this? I met someone at a show last year who had a lovely goldy brown hat and she told me that she'd bought the velvet and sent it off but when I contacted Charles Owen I had no luck....any ideas? I had to go through massive tears and attempts to kick the dog as it was the hat Georgie was wearing when she and the old pony won their ode section at mini area last year!

what make is it and how old is it? I think you can, but usually the shops send them back to the manufacturer, so if its a current make i dont think it would be a problem... no idea the cost of it though.

my mum had her hunting bowler recovered by Patey a few years ago. What a fantastic job they did, it went in green on the crown and all scarred it was nearly 40 years old. They did a superb job recovering it and even relined it and put Patey lining in it. It cost about £110 for the whole bowler. Do those little air vent buttons not screw off? I seem to recall they used to, as the velvet on one of mine came loose and we loosened it enough to be able to glue it back down.

Personally I wouldn't want to re-cover a hat that's 3 years old (unless it was a beagler). After a couple of years the fibres that cushion your head in a fall start to degrade and aren't as effective. I've always been led to believe you should change your hat every 3-4 years, even if it's not used very much and hasn't been involved in a fall.

Margaret Ogden doesnt do as much hat covering as she used to as now as she has a Pet shop. She doesnt have as much velvet choice as when she was doing the hats / jackets fulll time ...but is still fantastic ...i have her mobile number too Julie ...PM me if you need it , i send mine to her ..she will redo straps ...take them off etc .
