Hello ;D yes i have finally broke my mini shetty and he is fantastic! well apart from standing still! got to work on that abit. but i do worry if he is pulling to much. what is the pull weight for one mini Shetland at 34in? there is a lot of hills around here OK going up but down he struggles. i would like to take my kids with me in the cart which i have but i wonder if this is to much for him, i no it sounds silly as he seems to pull us fine on flat ground. but hills are a diffrent matter and i get the kids out when he seems out of breath, and i do not want to be tuff on him and worry of what others might think when they see this tiny shetty pulling me and 2 kids!

Small Shetland ponies can pull 3 times thier own weight ! he sounds great fun, and he will get fitter as time goes on, so will do more, happy driving

penduk ,I take it that wave has lots of common sense over her ponies training, and will give him lots of time, and this was a good question to ask.

How old is the pony? Is he mature/ muscled up? How big/ heavy is your vehicle? 2 or 4 wheels, is it balanced correctly if it is 2 wheels? What is the combined weight of the 3 prospective people on board? All these things need to be considered. My Shet is a standard, and pulls two 'normal' sized adults comfortabley, however, for very steep hills, I always ask my passenger to get off, especially going downhill, as you can very esaily scare/spoil a youngster in this way. If he thinks he is being 'pushed' downhill, learning to 'brace' the weight is something I like to take time over, until the pony is comfortable and capable.
I hope this makes sense. ;D

:)Hi All sorry for delay in applying. i have not yet got a photo with me driving him so this will have to do. Thanks for your replays. Tubby (that's his name) is doing well, and seems to be loving it! especially when we arrive at the pub and he has his half pint of Guinness and a pkt of crisps!
