I mean what on earth possesses them to roll in dirty disgusting stinking messes?? Fox poo is bad enough.. (Met one dog yesterday who likes to eat the stuff ) But today a particularly hairy aged Golden Retriever thought it was a BRRILLIANT idea to roll in a dead animal, obviously it's chosen roll had been dead for sometime and was putrified and liqui-fied and 3 hrs on I can still smell it.... I had to put the smelly dog in the car drive to the nearest yard (ex livery I was at) clean her with hibiscrub (the only shampoo i had on me) whilst soaking myself even more than I was.... and towel drying her, before allowing her back into the car.... I have washed my hands too many times than I care to remember, and I can still smell it... I feel for the owner (left a message saying what had happened and suggested Tommy ketchup)

Mine does this! The other week he rolled in a rotting fish carcass... 3 baths and the smell still lingered.. he was scrubbed within an inch of his life!

Happy to help
The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his Tongue.

My whippet is the cleanest, daintiest little lad until it comes to fox pooh! Makes me feel so bad and he never learns even though I wash him straight away. He recently rolled in the remains of a myxi rabbit he had caught the week before and I took off him as it was covered in fleas. The body has been laying on the shore for a week and so nibbled at by cats/birds/god knows what and yet he found it... I seem to buy a lot of new collars as it is easy to wash off but cannot get the smell out of leather.

My old border collie absolutely loved cow muck. The greener the better! Eventually I bought her a green cow muck coloured collar as I was sick of her leather one being dirty.

They are scenting. They try to outdo the other smells with their own scent hence why they roll & roll & better roll. You may think it is to cover themselves in as much of the mess as possible but they are just trying hard to get rid of the predators scent.

Omgg thank god there are fellow dog owners like me!! My boarder collie is now banned from coming 2 the farm!! Cow poo, horse poo, silage!! He stinks.. Bet I can top ur worst rolls.. Our farmer keeps his cows all in a pen nest 2 the muck heap, just on concrete. So all po and wee just sits on the floor, he comes in with the tractor and drags it all next 2 the muck heap, Its easily 2 feet deep.. Next to this is the poo pond that cllects at the bottom of the muck heap when its rainy Naughty alfie runs over and lies down AND rolls in puddly, when I run to get him jumps in to the cow poo and wee one and does a mega roll!!! I nearly fainted you could see any white!! Had to bath him with hose pipe n sit him on an outdoor rug in my car, he's white patches are still green! And my car smells like a wet,cow poo, horse poo silagey dog kennel!!

mygingeisthebest, sooo glad im not on your yard i think my girly would do the same!! Ours love fox poo too and the smell is hideous, oh and the obvious eating horse poo. Bleugh!!! Lottie usually runs around in the muck then goes into the field where theres a dirty old bath that seems to be full of minging water no matter how often we empty it and jumps straight in!!
