Hi
Just wondering how many weeks do you clip before Hoys, and what type of rugs and how many do you put on ?
We want to be able to do quarter marks yet dont want it standing up.
Suggestions welcome, thanks

No, spray it on neat and strap into the coat each day. Use a cotton sheet, then duvet, then rugs. Electric groomers are good as well if you can get hold of one.

From the sounds of it, clipping a lead rein pony of hunter type for a show on Sunday would be a no no - native strawberry roans are a nightmare to get right this time of year!!! just going to have to go with the mottled hairy look I guess - and get our hoover out!

We never use to clip for HOYS. Lots of rugs, we use to put them under the heat lamps, heat the pig oil up in a bowl and put it on and one of the hunters I looked after that went was pb dartie.

Clip 2 weeks before and rug up, its so hot in there and they sweat so much after warm up its hard to get them cooled without giving them a chill. So many horses come back from Hoys with a chill. Dont start with the pig oil if you havent used it before as there is nothing worse than a pig oiled pony sweating. Lots of coat shine from now until then and plenty of rugs.

I have always wanted to try pig oil even bought myself some but not brave enough to use it as I don't really know how to use it correctly. Any guidance/tips would be greatly appreciated. Cheers :-)

pig oil conditions.. we use it on a tradiotional, on his feathers, mane and tail, it encourages it to grow as well as conditions it, and gives it a shine.,
