Are people still interested in having drawings and paintings of their horses done these days?
Does it depend on price? Often they are expensive! If they were cheaper would they be more popular? And how much would you be prepared to pay?
I have just finished doing my a-levels and achieved an A* in fine art. I am now taking a gap year, and was wondering if I drew and painted peoples ponies, horses, and or pets from photos if it would be popular and make me some pocket money?

Oooooh , that takes me back ! I had a gap year after A levels and went off to do my BHSAI . I was a working pupil (remember those ?) and got £3 a week ! I subsidised that by doing horse portraits and also used to do illustrations and a cartoon strip for 'PONY' magazine . I earned more than the Head Girl ! It's a good way to earn extra pennies .Why not do a few samples and display/advertise at your local riding club .As far as price it depends on what medium you use and how fast you can paint !

Depends on the price you'd charge, I had my mums horse painted for her birthday by a friend she did it for free and id LOVE to have my other two done! but it depends on the price people charge!

My friend does amazing portraits. She did my mare as a christmas present and she has also done YO's horse who she rides. She's doing a couple for our other friend as a present and now our riding instructor wants a few doing for her daughter for xmas and she's paying her £150. She did her hairdressers horse and he's done her hair for free a few times. This is my girl. Obviously you can't tell if it looks like her or not as you don't know her but I can tell you that it's her image.

You are really talented, that drawing is lovely. But yes, it does depend on price

I think that people do still want them, I get quite a few enquiries/orders fairly regularly thought I dont really do them anymore! I did the same as you and used it to fund my showing when I was at college. Now is a good time to advertise too as people like to get them for gifts. If you get the price right people can also buy them for friends Xmas presents too.

It would depend on the size of the drawing or painting, I have little idea how much to charge, how does this sound...?
Drawing as shown approx A4 ...£30 Painting same size...£50
other sizes by arrangement.

Think you need to charge more than that!!! Looking at your original would be happy to pay £150 plus for that, you have got a real talent so keep at it, I used to do them over 20 years ago and was charging £60 then. Good luck and keep at it

Yes I do other mediums, painting mainly in oils but sometimes watercolours.
Thanks Cammarch but the original, is the photograph, sorry for any confusion.
