Interesting subject! We have a mare like this. She was lethargic, depressed and generally appeared to live on another planet. She just went through the motions of what we asked her to do. She has had loads of tests etc to find out why with all coming back normal. We have given up showing her and had her covered. Wow! WE are pretty sure she is in foal and she is cheerful and full of beans, just like a normal pony. SO... it had to be a hormonal problem despite the vet saying it couldn't possibly give rise to the symptoms she had. I don't know if there is any other answer (than breeding from mare like this) but I am very interested in what other people have to say.

Our 14 hand whp has endless energy/stamina....maybe we could shake them up!!! Actually we are fortunate that he is never naughty with it....just keen!! He has always been like that.
However, we have another pony similar to yours. Very safe, usually honest but hard work. With a change of work and diet this year he is much better. We try to keep him as slim as possible (not easy) and he needs to be very fit. He does plenty of hacking and we try to keep schooling sessions short and fun...and we do loads of transitions (as suggested above), especially walk/canter/walk. He even does some games as part of his work routine!!!
Cross country schooling or a good gallop always peps him up - particularly in a group. We feed regular electrolytes. He has good doer chaff, top spec and naked oats and a small portion of speedi beet which we vary according to work. Since the schooling/diet change he has been much brighter.
Look on the bright side - you say your mare jumps anything asked of her and you are not standing at the ringside anxious in case she ditches her jockey ever time she sees something she doesn't care for!!!!...and definately try electrolytes - standard dose daily and I double it when competing/travelling.

You might find that it an issue with starch, quite often horses become intollerant of it due to increased amounts of high starch products such as haylage and concerntrated mixes....
Try cutting down starch, so swap haylage for hay...and try a non starch food, such as Sacarcen Re-leve (it is racehorse food)......
It might work...and will not do any harm when trying....

...hunting.....bit tricky in June!!!! I realise you can't do it now! but Autum hunting starts in August/September in most places, and it could be something to try for next season. Pleasure ride with lots of horses might help as a substitute.

Is she just like this during the Spring/Summer or all year round? We had a polo pony that was a dead loss round the time of her cycle you could'nt get a tune out of her at all, it was all I could do to get her to canter at times during chukka's. When things quietened down as the arena season approached, we had a playing demon again.

Is she bored? Sometimes they get totally fed up with all the standing around that is involved when you show and they can show their frustration in lots of different ways.

Thank you for all your suggestions, will try the schooling ideas, we keep schooling to a minimum...........she has been there done that and does not need to keep going over it! We do do a fair amount of hacking, she could be bored I suppose as it is quiet where she is kept, only a few other horse, one of which is our Sec C...........she is keen on him, but he hardly gives her a second look! Maybe she'e sulking! I do give her electrolytes but only when competing, so will start giving daily

Daily salt has really helped my pony. There is a possibility of a cereal intolerance why not try a high fibre/ oil diet with Alfalfa and oil forming the main part? If interested contact SimpleSystems feeds that's all cereal free Also take her for some good gallops and hacking with others, perked my pony up lots not he's bounding with energy, but still controllable with it

Too much iron can cause what you are describing. So be careful with the vits and minerals. People can die from iron overdoses and the symptons are tiredness (which is why they try it) etc. Have a look on the internet, its mostly about people, but its worth thinking about.
Take care
