Can anyone tell me if there were any top placed home produced this year at HOYS?
I am hoping to start my daughter's LR career next season and we are VERY home produced (I have no help, work full time, one pony, one daughter of 5, DIY yard - not our own ....), but we have a (I hope) very nice pony from very good stock - he had 3 close relatives at HOYS this year.
Just feeling a little down-heartened and would love to hear some "good news HP stories" ... to me, looking at the results and googling the hell out of the top placed ponies, it looks like only the top producers have received the ribbons???

I bred Roseview Limited Edition who was 2nd in the 14.2 SP on Friday. He is totally home produced and has qualified for the last 6 years, being placed at the last 5.
I previously qualified an M&M LR for HOYS on my first go in a qualifier at only my 2nd show with a LR!!

results.scgvisual.com/2011/birmingham/r28.htmlI am reasonably sure the winning Dales was home produced, the lady bought him out of Holmfirth mart in 2007, there is a lovely story behind that success. The 3rd placed but top Fell I am also sure is home produced. The 4th placed Rushfield Bailey in Sec D is fairly local and family produced the rider is a hobby rider

This year at the HOYS the 2nd 14.2 show pony & 3rd M&M Lr, were both HP. Good luck, if you've got a beautiful pony & you work hard enough it can be done!

In the sense that the owner of the pony shows him and produces him, I suppose in a roundabout fashion he is home produced. However, he is owned by Tracey Milward who, in my opinion, is one of the country's best M&M producers. So i'm not entirely sure if that counts as home produced . If you have bought a good enough pony and are willing to put in all the hard work that the producers do, then sure you can make it. There are judges out there that actually look at the ponies in front of them and not just the 'faces' on top Good luck x

I had a number of friends in a variety of classes that are home produced, nearly all of which were in the top ten, so yes it can be done.

Snowy you would have Tracey blushing! She deserves that lovely comment.
To me Ben is 100% homeproduced. His story is a beautiful one. The naughty unregistered colt bought on the Holmfirth sales carpark she obviously saw his sparkle and once his breeding was hunted down turned into a champion I cannot congratulate her enough.
The rules however with Tracey now producing in the last few years means he is not "officially" home produced. I do feel your sentiment however jebediah :-)

We were 8th in the 13shp, so not really top placed , but still in the lineup!! We are so home produced that Georgia has NEVER had a lesson on our pony! So it can be done , Good luck xx

I'm pretty sure Leo Bowen was producing Caridines Cut A Dash for the fr for his owners, they had a box about it in h&h when the pony qualified at Welsh champs. Nicki Smith was 3rd with Fofsway Dominic last year, she is completely home produced.

Bowens are home producers because they do the pretty polly classes. I think that lots of home produced ponies were placed well this year!

I know people probably don't know the answer to this but I wonder how many of the home produced people are working full time and on a strict budget?

Lives at home and her rider Anya Potter-Firth is 5, Anys's mum leads her on Dilys and her Gran drives them to shows. TOTAL family effort. Don't forget, they also won LR M and M and were Mini champion at RIHS. Gives hope to us all ;D ;D ;D ;D

There is a big difference to home produced and those who can afford to sponsor everything and still class themselves as home produced. Also judges who class themselves as HP but can swap favours with other judges.
If the list is refined to those who HP, but are not a judge/relative of a judge and not a sponsor but are a mere mortal what are statistics like then?

Briars Amaretto who was 3rd in the 122 M&M WHP is home bred and home produced. The owner rider works and has a young child.and has nowhere to school at home.

We qualified 3 of our own welsh ponies for HOYS last year, 2 of which I broke myself, and my Mum & I do everything ourselves, both have demanding full time jobs, and homes to run, and just have to fit everything in some how, but we have spent years learning what makes a good pony & rider and are now enjoying our success. All my boys gave a lovely account of themselves on the day, and we were thrilled to be placed 4th with our C. We don't know any judges, don't have any connections with producers, and certainly don't have either the money or the inclination to sponser classes so I know for a fact all my tickets were won on merit & judges preference on the day
