Im pretty sure if your not exhibiting you won't be allowed to bring the horse lorry in, all exhbitors lorries are checked and require passes

not sure but normally all lorries are stopped and checked. As Letts said, lorry passes are required. Ring them up and ask...

I would say no as all lorries have to have passes and if they did let people do that I think they'd end up in a mess as I think a lot of people would end up doing it to save money on hotels.

You can't take an empty lorry in. exhibitors can buy passes for extra lorries (empty) but it costs either £80 or £90 i think

Am sure you can't take an empty lorry into the horse box park , or if you can you need to pay a fair bit , we took an empty lorry once and parked it near the train station on a public car park that is usually pretty empty ... It is a car park with brick toilets and shower block etc and you walk under a subway which brings you out round the back of the arena , quite a few wagons park on it , can't remember which car park it is tho sorry !

I am sure people have empty boxes to collect horses/ponies they have bought. Lots are sold from hoys. Call them up,tell them you are picking up a new purchase they must have lots of people wanting just that

Its the west car park that a lot of stall holders park with caravans etc but it is a public car park too, only problem is getting into the nec as the stall holders have passes to walk through the tunnel, you would have to walk up to the train station and walk through, its not far.

my friend did this few yrs ago, when she collected her new pony after it had finished at hoys you cant take the wagon into the official horsebox park but she parked it in the public carpark and paid the fee but i think she called the hoys/nec phone line before hand as the public carpark is for public and i guess if you want to turn up in a wagon or car so be it but i dont kow where you would stand onbeing in carpark over night?? as you pay for the day my friend didnt stay overnight just collected and left after a day in hoys xx

Yes I think it is the west car park , it's not one of the main ones that you park your car at , we walked through the subway no problem but it was about 4 years ago

I took an empty one last year and stayed overnight - it costs about £80 a night. another year I went and picked up on the day and there is an area the stewards use for exactly that which is not in the main lorry park. Best advice is to find somewhere locally and then drive there to do the pickup.

This is what I was going to say too.........I think you just follow signs for the airport/station? Then you just pay for parking once you leave the car park

dsmum is right, there is a specific area for lorries that are dropping off or collecting ponies and LOTS of stewards to check passes etc. The other car parks all require a pass or payment of some description and the hook up is all organised too. We stayed in the trade stand park right next to the area where the young folk who help in the arenas with poles etc stayed. They stayed up til all hours for the first two nights and then very quiet...they were exhausted!

just a quick update- also to remind myself for next year. Went in car with friends after all, Parked in Car park E1 where when we arrived at 6.30am there already was a horsebox at the back- when we left it was still there so assuming they must have been sleeping over.
