Standing close up to the ponies in a ring is a completely different ball game to "judging" from the ring side , quite often a horse /pony which looks like an obvious one to be placed is not when you get close.

I'm sick of reading this comment about the blacks/bays in the d class if anyone watched the whole class they would have seen that a very nice chestnut mare was pulled in third, but she actually left the class to go and do her ridden and didn't make it back in time, I know this for a fact because i was pulled in 4th next to her but moved up to third, The stallion that won was stunning, and the mare that was 2nd always does well and my friends d who i was showing is a fab example of his breed, Don't think its very fair for people to keep writing on various sites that horses were only placed because of there colour not there standard ! Also in the m+m youngstock class i was in a chestnut filly got well placed.

to be honest am getting fed up with reading bad comments about judges...at this rate there will be none left as they wouldnt want to get bit*hed about on sites like this. i wouldnt like to judge as i wouldnt want people to try and drag my name down...not that its up any where...

Everyone is entitled to there own opinion, But regarding the sec d class people need to get there facts right before they come on open forums slating judges. It's not nice to read that your pony only got placed due to its colour! We've all stood bottom of the line at some time regardless of whether we think we deserve it or not

its a shame many people feel the need to slate judges on an open forum, many of these judges do it for the love of horses and often go unpaid.... i think for those of you that believe this is an easy task go and see if you can get on a panel.. put your money where your mouth is. Its just a display of terrible sportsmanship....... I agree totally.

I'm quiet happy for you all to have a good old moan about my judging, I have broad shoulders and can take the criticism, and I find it amusing. Also while you are all moaning about me your leaving some other poor bugger alone.

I think it's quite common for a pony that has misbehaved a bit to be placed inhand and I don't see a problem with it - the class is about type, movement and conformation and while I would expect ponies to have manners, I appreciate some of them can be a bit hot and as long as there is nothing unsafe that happens, then it's fine IMO.

thought the judging was pathetic at uk showing this year !!
and tbh i cant see any of the judges at uk showing to have gone unpaid
and i dont see that we "slate" the judges we just expect to be judge fairly and professionally

i didnt show at uk showing this year so isnt down to me being a sore loser !!
felt that classes wer judged unfairly
i watched a hunter class where a large grey horse reared up infront of the judge and went on to win
i also watched classes where lovely horses wernt getting placed and horses that didnt deserve to even qualify for the show were winning dont think its fair on those who truely deserve to win

but that is your opinion as is your right to make, the same as it is the right for the judge to make their opinion, neither is wrong just different and thats the way it should be, if our opinion is always the same showing would be very boring because the same horses would always win and be placed the same at every show.

i personally would have a boring show than an unfair one
how can you justify placing something that doesnt deserve to be placed just to make it not boring ??
hmmmmm

think halfpass was just saying that its was the judges decision - and if all the judges liked the same horses and no1 would get a looking i think that is what is meant by boring!
theres always going to be difference of opinion with every class coz not everyone like the same horses!

dont know which thread it was about people going on about HOYS standard ponies at local shows.. well.. i was at the irish draft and sport horse show today.. and my little man who doesnt really win any where won a class with horses that have qualified for HOYS and went on to his workers with a very good standard of horses and won that!
so it doesnt matter what type of horse or what standard... everyone has a chance!

Ive been put down the line one week cos me pony gave excellent impressions of a rocking horse and then been in the top 6 in the RW a week or two later and yes this was with a rather bubbly younsgter.
Judges do and should put ponies down that misbehave, as how can they see that a pony is straight, and that it s conformation is correct if it wont keep still long enough and is throwing itself all over the place.
