Hi All
Wondering if you would have any suggestions. We have a 15 month old German Shepherd x Border Collie girlie who for the last few weeks has been shedding excessive amounts of hair (She is medium to long coated) to the point now where her coat is looking fairly thin. We have noticed that she has like a dandruff which starts down middle half of her body, as a result she is scratching. She is regularly treated for fleas with spot on. I am wondering if it is an allergy thing. Had a good look at her last night, although difficult because she wriggles like a maggot, and can't see any fleas. Taking her to vets tomorrow - just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem?

It could be an allergy, equally it could be some other skin problem.
James Wellbeloved or Burns foods can be helpful for allergy, and are worth trying if you are not already doing so.
Your vet will probably offer a shampoo. Best wishes to your girl, I hope she gets better very soon.

Thankyou Viking, it turned out to be a mite, so that's now been treated. Vet says she has also had a false pregnancy, that would explain some very strange behaviour and shedding of coat. She goes back in three weeks time and if she hasn't lost any further weight she will be stay in to be spayed!
