my 11 year old collie had mammory tumours removed and was spayed in 2005. She had another mammory tumour removed last friday- and was doing really well for the first few days, sometimes with collar on sometimes off. The area (just behind elbow ) filled with Fluid- and the stitches looked pulled. Took her to vets yesterday ( friday) and the fluid was drained, given stronger antibiotics, and sent home. ( May i add at this point, she is VERY difficult with the vets, they are very tolerant with her!!) she seemed a little quiet last night, but i assumed she was upset from having it drained. This morning it was filled again, and the stitches looked really uncomfortable, she came out in the garden, and when we came in i noticed she must have licked it, - or possibly scratched at it with her back leg- but the wound was open, and the rest of the stitches look like may burst too so we dashed back to the emergency vets- who wasnt too concerned sent me home said to clean it well and fill with Manuka but i am concerned as she seems brighter tonight and whilst ive seen worse on the ponies( and sucessfully treated with Manuka!) im really upset and worried about her, have cleaned it with Hibiscrub, washed off with saline, applied manuka, then bandaged it in place, any other tips, she is my baby She on Pain relief and Antibiotics- and she isnt the sort of dog that can cope with being away from home- or around strangers

To be honest i think you are doing everything you possible can, keep it clean, if the vets have given her pain killers then hopefulyy they should kick in soon. Sending hugs to your poorly girl. xxx

As long as the wound isn't bleeding profusely and it's only a couple of stitches missing I would just leave it to heal by secondary intention but just keep an eye on it that it doesn't get infected. If she is licking it or chewing it excessively I would put a baby vest or t shirt on her

she has got an outfit on which is covering it- a huge gamgee pad so if it slips its still covered, wrapped in soffban, then her jumper over the top, she is being so good when i dress it! x
