Hi all
A friend of mine is having a bit of trouble finding a treed saddle to fit her very oddly shaped cob.
He is 14.3hh and is 21...he has a HUGE chest and shoulders and very broad back however he does have high withers. She has been told due to his shape and age a treeless saddle may be the best option however she is not too sure.
What are people's opinions of treeless saddles especially for older horses?

We have one of our ponies in a treeless solutions saddles and had great results. The only thing is these are VERY pricey!

would you reccomend a treeless then? I have never really used them although ridden freind's horses who have them and they are very comfy!
I think the horse in question's owner has her eye on a few and she just wanted opinions on whether they are good. She is worried that with them having no tree they don't offer enought support.

I love my Treeless Solution Saddle., Wouldn't go back to treed. It fits all year round regardless of weight and muscle fluctuations. I haven't had any trouble with my horse's back since having them. They are pricey but at least your mind will be at rest. Do have a proffesional advisor out thought to fit if you do go down this route even if just for peace of mind

The best thing about the solutions package is that you can rent (at a coast) the saddle for as long as you want before you committ to buying

I also use solution saddles - I did not set out to get a treeless, but after totally failing to find a treed saddle to fit my first highland mare (I even had one made to measure, fitted beautifully when she was standing still, went straight up her neck when she moved - I was given a full refund) ended up trying one and loving it, and I now have 3. (The most that ever get ridden out at once is 4, whoever rides Corrie has to go bareback!) The great thing I find is with lots of ponies, with just a few extra bits of foamy stuff, the same saddle will fit any pony - you do need a proper fitter to show you what to put where, though. When I got the first one, I didn't dare tell my husband how much they cost, but actually they have been worth every penny. I have bought ex - demonstrator models, which makes it much cheaper, and the interest rates on their finance schemes were also very good.

I fit awkward shaped horses with treed saddles - we specialise in cobs and natives. Treeless is not a solution for everyone and not one I'd choose personally especially with a high wither. We have a fitter in the NW if it's any help.
