Hi there,
was wondering if anyone could help,
my 6 year old mare has had a big hock since birth but lately has gaiend a few more lumps. None have coursed her asny problems and when the vet came ou he siad they were just blemishes. However yesturday i noticed she has had another one come uip on her back hock and as i ahve read through many of my horse health books i believe it to be a bog spavin.
I was just wondering if anyone could help me with this. Will it course any serious damage? Can i still work her? And will shall i get the vet out to check her?
Thanx

I hunted a horse with a bog spavin for a few seasons, he was'nt mine and believe he'd had it for a while. He came out a bit stiff on the leg (mental note made to unload AWAY from the d**n sabs), but was fine after a few strides - and it looked a bit lumpy and not quite right, but to be honest, never held him back, galloped, jumped (and would kick hell out of you given half a chance), and when asked, rode nicely on the bit without any problems. Never lame either. Cant say though for what to do when it is in its early stages. It was a ligament injury did for him in the end, entirely unrelated to his other problem. Good luck - had some of my best days on old Bulldog!!! Get the vet to take a look and take it from there really.....
