OK, this is going to take a bit of explaining so sorry for the long story but would really appreciate any advice.
I have a 10 year old c**ker x springer little girl called Shannon. She is the most affectionate little thing once she gets to know you and I absolutely dote on her. She is also now almost completely blind but manages very well in places that she knows.
During the day while I am at work she goes to my Mum's (as she has since a puppy) and I have her at home whenever I am there. Until recently while she is at my Mum's she lived with their springer who she had grown up with and was the only dog she ever really got on with. Very sadly we recently lost Tod (old age) and Shannon is definitely missing him a lot :-( She can not mix with my Mum's two small dogs as the younger one of them will fight with her (they haven't been together for a long time so we don't know if they still will but not willing to take the risk). As a result I am worried that she is lonely. My Mum and sister spend as much time as they can with her when she is there but it is not the same as having her friend there with her. When she is at home with me this is not a problem as she spends all her time with me but I have to go to work...
I am wondering if there is anyway she might accept another dog as a companion... But there is a lot of questions and worries. I don't think a puppy would be fair as it would want to play a lot and with her eye sight she would probably get fed up with it. But, would she be more likely to accept a puppy rather than an older dog... Will she accept another dog (male or female) at all, as she is an older dog and is set in her ways... She is very nervous of other dogs (not helped by her eye sight) and has been known to growl etc. But, would she be OK if it was the right dog and introduced in the right way... Is it fair on her to introduce another dog, even though it would be to keep her company... At my house she is very much the lady of the house (I know she is spoiled but she has been allowed to be due to her eye sight and the fact she is the only dog there).
Any ideas/advice/similar situations???
I hate the thought of her being lonely, and think she would like the company of another dog to cuddle up to. She is still a lively little thing, and likes to play, even with her bad eyes. But I am worried she would also be extremely jealous and put out, and I know this is soppy but she is my little girl and I don't want to upset her...
