OMG I've just watched the riding Horse classes. lovely quality animals forward, but yet again an example of where the class might have well have been an inhand class as the judge had no regard to manners on the go round or ride. Full marks to Mr Ramsey for his stickability, we thought for a moment he was heading hunting pace towards the hedge, and yes the judge did see this!

Full marks to Mr Ramsey for his stickability, we thought for a moment he was heading hunting pace towards the hedge, and yes the judge did see this! Judge saw it, but chose to ignore it. Was difficult to see how the judge also managed to ignore the horse misbehaving when they were riding it as well!

Blimey - what a marathon! Got to within 2 miles of the show ground according to my satnav, then directed 15 miles in a circle - then on the way back there was something on fire and we were held up again for ages.
Dinger (The Humdinger) won the LW cobs (beating Casanova who was HOYS winner for the past two years - and then they took champion and reserve. So Smart was naughty for the judge so came out of the ring.
The classes were quite large and the ground was very good - wish the stands were nearer. I got fed up having to go past all the tractor stands, so in the end didn't bother buying anything other than a stale baguette and an ice cream!

fmm - do you have a catalogue. If so can you kindly tell us how many are in the M&M ridden class (Welsh Sec C) and the Open Show Ponies. Would be much appreciated as we have an extremely early start..
Thank You

Thanx Do you do the coloured horse showing site attached to CHAPS? If so, are you going to do the running update on who has qualified where? I really enjoyed that last year

Was The Philanderer sent out of the large riding horse? I saw the go around from a distance and it looked like it was really misbehaving, but I didn't see what happened to it. Shame as it is stunning.

Shame as it is stunning. He was overcome by the flapping bits on the spectators seating! He was naughty about that, but fine the rest of the time. Unfortunately, the RH classes and cob classes were clashing, and we had already had to put a substitute jockey in the smalls as Jayne was standing in top in the LW cobs. We thought we would be able to do the large and then just make the cob championship. However, the HWs finished quite quickly and the championship was following, so although Phil was not asked to leave the ring, Jayne asked to be excused. She then swapped saddles onto the cob and won the cob championship which made up for it a bit. It is such a pain when classes which should be do-able end up by totally clashing. He is simply stunning isn't he?

Meant to add that there were some people standing next to me during the Large riding horse go round. There were quite a lot of horses in the ring, and on the change of rein, the ones coming up to do the change of rein were not going on the inside track. This meant that the horses that had already changed the rein could not keep cantering on the left rein as there was no track for them to go on.
The people next to me were saying loudly how stupid the riders were for not continuing to canter round, (as they had not realised that there was nowhere to canter to). Thank goodness the first couple of riders actually saw there was going to be a problem and stopped. It did seem unfair, however, that some of the spectators were bit*hing about some of the pro riders who had halted - they were obviously incapable of seeing that an accident was going to happen if the horses had not stopped in time. Yes, it looked messy, but better that than running head first into someone coming in the opposite direction!

Such a pity that he isn't a mare as you must be getting so frustrated with him, and at least if he were you could breed from him, rather than see him keep getting placed down the line. Keep smiling!

I think that the South of England and Lincoln are two of the buzziest shows and we forget that he is still pretty inexperienced on the big occasion. The trouble is you need the look at me attitude to get a truly outstanding show horse, but this also comes with the occasional toy being thrown out of the pram. He is so beautiful though, and generally just floats around the ring looking god like, so we can't complain if he goes into one on the odd occasion!

Here is a bit more of Dinger - the side on shot was taken this winter, so he is a bit hairy and not quite as mature looking as he is now. He thinks he is gorgeous!

I watched The Philanderer at BSHA champs last year - he was THE horse of the event IMO = magical. They're not machines though. I'm sure he has plenty more good days to come. A definite "watch this space".
