Something thats really bugging me at the minute is horsey fashion in the non horsey world! a lot of people who i know are now sporting quilted jackets or barbour jackets with either hunters or these fake dubarry boots, to go shopping...i dont get it?? if the prices of these stayed the same i wouldn't be too fussed however they've all had like a 100% increase! the other day a work colleague came into work in a new jacket, sat down and said 'this is my new Barbour jacket, bet you've never even heard of Barbour have you?' My response? 'seriously?? i was wearing Barbour when i was three mate' Non horsey people are usually commenting on how i smell of horses not where i got my outfit from...rant over

Its very annoying I agree. It means prices up and quality down. They dont need to be as good quality to keep you warm in the freezer isle at tesco rather than out at the yard all day.

its a pity they dont come with an in made horsey smell that we all aquire ,that would soon stop them trying to look like the horsey set ,however i will say that it does make it easier to pop down the shops and not look completely out of place apart from the smell and the s--t !!!!!!

I work in Marks and Spencer for a catering company and we get lots of ladies and gents coming in in their Barbour coats and Hunters. The looks on their faces though when I say Oh Ive had those for years!

Haha we always set trends it seems, remember the Dior snaffle bag ?? It just annoys me that hunters are now £70 and not as well made when they used to be £40 and last forever!! Think us horsey people should have special discount for 'our' fashion

It annoys me too!
Last year if people saw me in the supermarket or town centre in my farm clothes they would look at me with disgust (bearing in mind in the horsey world it is designer...) and now the majority of people are raving over horsey fashion and wearing it for everyday wear!
Also, has anyone noticed how expensive Hunter wellies have become?! ... But how the quality of them is s**t!

i made a thread a couple months ago. About a pair of dublin river boots i brought. They are clearly not 'hard wearing, durable' boots anymore, they are clearly made just for fashion. what about us people who want to wear them to keep out feet warm and dry?!!

Since they started making jods in stretch fabric and did away with those stiff, woollen hip flares (you possibly never saw these if you are under 50) I have thought Jods the most comfy thing. The first thing I put on every morning.
I bought some off ebay recently and when they arrived they were BRIGHT ** BLUE with purple strapping on the legs. I was amazed, but tried them on and now wear them around the house after shedding my smelly stuff. My husband reckons he will never see wearing anything else but jods unless he takes me somewhere posh now. Just think, after all these years, I might be fashionable, and he doesn't realise it.
Don't knock the young girls, most of them are now comfy and warm, which is a radical change in the fashion industry. Do agree about the hunter wellies though, I bought some Dublin ones at HOYS and they have already collapsed and let in the mud. Anybody know of some decent comfy wellies please?

Auntiebarb; re: comfy wellies, I would recommend the Sherwood forest, neoprene lined wellies. They are fab, and keep your feet warm too!

Oh my! Ahaha love the names of the riding boots ;D Everyone we know our wearing these new quilted jackets - last year we got told: "You can't go into town wearing THOSE [barbours]!" No one believes me when I tell them it's 'horsey' fashion

After reading this thread before I went to work in M&S this morning, I spotted at least 8 people wearing Barbour jackets (pristine clean) and one woman wearing a lovely (clean) pair of cream jods with chocolate seat and a pair of heeled full length brown boots. I did in the summer see a lady in M&S wearing a pair of dirty jods and muckers............she apologised to me if she smelt of horse I often go to the Simply foods shop which isn't the store I work in in my farm clothes............the look on the assistant's face is a picture when I hand my staff discount card over!!
