I wouldnt go near a gag or anything similar , as they raise the head because of the shanks. Try something with more pole action? Maybe a wilki snaffle or just riding really soft may be the answer!! Encouraging the horse to carry itself is vital-when they do relax dont hold them - give them the reins I did this with my haffie , who tbh didnt have a very high head carriage , but did struggle to relax - I now ride lots of shapes and circles and ride very soft - i also ride in a Tom Thumb copper roller sweet iron bit Very good Hope this helps dosierosie

You could also try a volcanite pelham as they help soft head carraige!

Have you had your pony checked out that its not carrying its head like that for a medical/pain reason? I would get its back and teeth checked just to be sure its not holding its like that for balance or to relieve a pressure point. Its just when it doesn't like a snaffle bit which is the mildest type of bits - you wonder if its trying to tell you something!

try side rains or a bungy just to tell your pony that his head has to stay down. and maybe a hanging snaffle or a waterford?

I wouldn;t use any gadgets at this stage, you need to get your horses back, teeth and saddle checked, if they are all ok then you need to ride your horse forward from behing and up into the bit, the answer is not to change the bit or pull the head in with side reins/draw reins. Do you have an instuctor that can teach you how to encourage a horse to work on a correct outline

Definitely get the teeth checked - this could your horse's way of telling you that something isn't comfortable.
