Personally I really like straw but where I am i'm stuck with shavings. We've tried so many different types and they all work out stupidly expensive at the end of it.

We've tried loads of differant bedding. We have now gone onto straw pellets which are far better than anything we have tried. We have fully matted stables too. They are very absorbant and you hardly need to take any of the bedding out as it just keeps drying out, just add another bag about every 10 days and it keeps it dry. Far better than wood pellets and you dont need to add water to straw pellets either. Maybe a bit more dusty when you put a new bed down but no other complaints at all about them. Muck heap considerably smaller than before!

My horse is allergic to wheat so after trying a million and one types of bedding, I've fallen in love with chopped rape straw brilliant smells nice, stays clean and absorbant.
