Last year I saw a lot of people showing in different makes of country boots sometimes even with jeans on. Now I HATE jodpur boots with a passion and don’t like the look of people wearing trainers in the ring but I thought the boots looked quite smart even with the jeans and obviously kept it comfy. Can everyone tell me the different makes you wear? Or have seen being worn? There are so many different ones out there …..

Well I used to show in dark coloured Ecco laceups, being I thought too old for trainers, but then had to resort to them for the sake of my feet. Sadly the only ones that fitted the physios recommendations for me and my feet were perfectly hideous, green and black stripes, not that it made a blind bit of difference to the results. The judge is judging the pony, not you, and as long as you are neat the tidy and wear a hat when required nothing will get you put down the line.
I showed Welsh As, but I think it can matter what you are showing - the thought of trying to run fast enough for even an A, let alone a D, in jodhpur boots makes me shudder. Some of the handlers at RWAS I swear are in spiked running shoes. Maybe a polite RP would be OK in jodhpur boots - I'm not quite sure what you class as "country boots" to comment on those.

Hi there sarah. Thanks for your reply I meant country boots like the Dublin and toggi long boots. Exactly my thoughts on jodpur boots. They are sooooo slippy. And I have always found them un comfortable. I show welsh Bs and just want to find something more comfortable that still look smart for next season really. Trouble is I know it isn’t meant to be about what you look like but I wouldn’t like to go in the ring not looking smart. This year I showed in either jodhpurs and jodpur boots or some plain cream or black smart trousers with black trainers as I found the boots so uncomfy. But I am on the lookout for a whole new wardrobe for next season. New ponies means new wardrobe!! Hehe Thanks again sarah

I think most of those who show inhand wearing long boots tend to have Dubarry's on.

I have tried showing in the toggi and the ariat country boots and believe me they are just as slippy as wearing jod boots, I personally run my D out in black hockey boots so have some grip

That surely is the important thing - that you can actually run fast and safely in your chosen footwear.

That surely is the important thing - that you can actually run fast and safely in your chosen footwear. I agree. I usually wear my Mountain Horse short boots as they are smart enough looking but have decent grip. I don't like seeing jeans in inhand classes either - chino-type trousers are IMO more correct, although I usually wear smart cords.

I wear jod boots but made sure I got some really sturdy ones with plenty of grip on (I have a show cob who think's he's a welsh inhand!) - not sure I could run fast enough in country boots tbh.
Plus I wear black trousers as my horse has white legs and I have a navy tweed so think that black trousers and boots suit us better.

I wore my Toggi country boots when running on the LR with my son. Found that tripping and turning my ankle on a divot of grass was the worst risk, not the slippiness of the ground! I seemed to attract potholes!

Cant run in boots, i prefer black trainers that are very plain, comfy and support the foot to run x
