It's almost christmas the kennels are full, all shivering cold are the Staffordshire Bulls. Not a christmas jumper to keep them warm, or soothe their fears from the wind and storm. No stocking with rawhide and tasty jumbone, 'cos these poor little staffies don't have a home. Overlooked and overbred, many of these babies by Christmas will sadly be dead. So loyal and trusting and such a bad reputation, they're not devil dogs just abused by the nation. Lots hate the rain but they have no choice, abandoned and needy they all need a voice. Someone to speak out about their plight, so they get loving homes and a warm fire at night. ... Don't buy Staffie puppies and please please dont breed, there are too many Staffies already in need. Go visit the kennels you won't find any merrier, than if you give a second chance to a Staffordshire Bull Terrier
(shamelessly nicked from a friend on FB)

All sooo true. Here is a pic of our staffi x her real name is Xena but we call her bear She is now 12 we rehomed her 10 years ago. she was found wondering the streets in Bristol having been used as a breeding machine, she was a bag of bones when she came to live with us. She is a complete wimp and needs to wear a coat to keep her warm. She insists on coming to our yard daily and will refuse to leave the car if it is raining or windy. She is great with other dogs, kids and horses. She is a bit smelly and has athritus but we all love her to bits and wouldnt change her for the world

I saw the link on FB yesterday of the satffie who was taken from Gumtree 2 days ago and 13 hours later found dead with suspicious dog fighting wounds. So sad how many are given away and this is their fate. Wish people would stop breeding them.

I work at a kennels which deals with strays which come in from the council. The amount of staffies that coming is not nice, yet the majority of the time they are much more nicer than the other dogs that come in. They are really lovely dogs just wish people would see that instead of going to buy little puppies from breeders. Makes me mad that people continue to breed when there are lots of dogs, not just staffs, that dont have a home. X

This is so true, we have a staffie cross and he is the best dog I ever met, we got him from rescue home 4 years ago when he was only 10 weeks old. He was with the rest of his litter, not sure why he was there but he was terrified of people, especially adults! We tried everything to help him, puppy clubs, outings, even of sort of dog whisperer! But nothing helped him, so now we just don't take him out in crowed places and he is fine, great with kids and other dogs but still unsure of adults! Then at 9 months old he was involved in a car accident and had to have one of his back legs amputated! But he is still best dog ever, even thinking of going to get another staffie from rescue home as friend for him!

It's very rewarding helping a rescue dog isn't it? We took on our silly saluki nearly five years ago now from the local kennel dealing with strays, and it's amazing how he has come on. Young adult when we had him, found straying so no history but thin and rather manky looking, scarred, terrified of people, had obviously from his reactions been kicked and hit with something held in a hand. Now I sweet, kind loving dog, grown bigger, filled out and wonderfully healthy, still not that sure of strange men but so much better and happy to lie on the sofa being scratched with a foot! He did two rounds of puppy dog training classes and was teachers pet as so unlike anything else there and obviously needed help. He did learn it all but very much at his own speed - slowly.

I love staffie's, my friend has 4 of them. They are SO kind, they have two kids (5 and 7) and the dogs are so good with them, i'd love one but I haven't got room for another until I move. People say they're aggressive but I'v seen loads of they've been fab dogs!

I dont think they are a particually agressive breed. In the 8 months I have worked there, there has only been one which has been bad. However it was more scared than anything, thankfully some one adopted it, presume it has come round as when there was one person dealing with it it was a different dog. Think becuase some people think they look 'scary' it gives them a bad name, when in actual fact most are very sweet and just want to be loved! Would deffinately get one if we was to get another dog as think they are lovely...
