Why do people feel the need to go riding on icy roads?! Every winter i see people out riding on roads that are clearly covered in ice, this is so stupid and dangerous as the poor horses slide all over the place and could easily fall and break something! Are people so stupid that they do not think about consequences? Are they so selfish that they don't care what happens to their horses? Please tell me that i am not the only person who is angered by this!

I once went for a ride in bitter cold weather, all the roads looked clear so I thought it would be ok. However turn off the main road to the old train lines and the water that drips under the bridge had turned to ice. I didn't realise otherwise I wouldn't of carried on and unfortunately horse went one way and I went the other both skidding across the floor. We were only walking and fortunately not injured but thinking about it now (it was 8years ago!) I feel stupid for even turning off the main road! It's just so dangerous

The other morning I couldn't even turn my lot out because of the ice on the lane up to the fields. It was just to risky -- ice and metal shoes do not mix!

i agree! last sunday i decided it was too icy and went to the arena about 100yards from my house with my mare, got across the road ok and up the path to the arena, coming back down the path on the grass carefully, she shyed at a tree trunk - onto the ice and down we went, lets just say she got up quicker than i did and im covered in bruises.... shes fine though and so am i but it just goes to show the slightest thing can frighten them also. Just imagine if that had happened on a main road?! eek
