If the Blue showing jacket has a lapel button hole made, then yes, a SMALL neat flower such as a Rosebud, mini Carnation or Cornflower (real or neat imitation) can be popped through it and neatly pinned out of sight at the back.
But ABSOLUTELY NOT those ghastly pin on things which are made to match the browband and which flop to the horse's stride and not a wacking great floral tribute with the stem showing, either.
Equally, not a huge matching scrunchy, either. Those are NOT elegant.
Hope this helps. By the way, for which classes are you refering?

yes it was always a fresh small red carnation for us, it was my late mums job to get it for the weekend , we used to keep it in an oasis in the lorry so it would last all weekend, it was pinned in the back of the lapel by a small pin, when we went sidesaddle we always worn a blue corn flower- but those were in the 80s and NO SHORT JACKETS !! YES I HAVE SHOUTED i hate them

(or even on children - it detracts from the picture).

I don't like them because it look like as if you are going to the funeral and I don't think they look smart either also they are rather old fashion !!

forgot to add hair---- always neat and tied with a small red ribbon- and sometimes the 14.2 s/p girls had short hair which was cut so well to go under their hats - my sister was one of those, and lets not forget ties, either plain or which a small spot, or a stripe, there is a lady on here who gave my sister a tie which is blue and white stripe that she worn when she won the Hacks at Wembley - we still have it today and now my daughter wears it!!!!!
the late great Ronnie Marnont always said less was more!!!, our finest hour was when he told a whole class of Side- saddle ponies that ours was the best Habit and turnout out he had seen in many a year ( he also said my sister was a very good side ways rider)

Mr Marmont was a great man - an educated gentleman - and a stickler for turnout.
That's still being a very lucky tie then... I do love it when respected gifts are used through the generations.
I recently gave my Granny's (childsize) very special Hunting whip to a little boy who can't wait to be big enough to use it. (His Daddy uses them, you see)

Absolutely agree that a neat little discreet rosebud or cornflower tucked out of sight through a buttonhole looks fine. I can echo about those silly short jackets I HATE THEM! Nothing elegant in them whatsoever and as for all this matching bling YUKKKY. WE showed under Ronnie Marmont many times and as has been said he was stickler for turnout and yes less is more. If you find a discreet little flower old fashioned then I guess Wiltshire man you'll be rooting for "sagger" jod's next, you know, hanging halfway down your crutch and bum cheeks showing your grubby underwear . . . very elegant
