If you look on the British Driving Society (BDS) website, you will see dates and venues for all levels of driving events, and lots of other information. If you can spectate at club level events, or even offer your voluntary service as a helper, you can meet people who will help you find out what you need to know.
I break to drive. I prefer to visit the client's yard, and work with them and their pony over a period, during which I teach them both what they need to know. Between my visits, the owner can get on with the job. This results in the owner and the pony learning together, and makes for a solid relationship.
A driving pony has to be bold, manageable, trainable, and reliable. It's not uncommon for training to reveal that a certain animal is not going to make a driver, but if you start with the right pony, the chances are that, with the right training, you will have a driver.
How old is your pony, and what has he done to date?
