My old cat is 14/15 now. He used to be a big cat but over the past couple of years has lost muscle tone so does look a bit older but isnt losing weight. Just recently tho he has started wandering around my flat loking lost. Big wide eyes and just not himself. I think he could be deaf now as he'll want his biscuits but not hear you put them down beside him. He doesnt really seem quote aware of what is going on around him. He used to go to bed at night and sleep thro but now he goes to bed and an hour later has started walking backwards and forwards right over my head. He'll do that cinstantly for hours t i get so peed off i get him off the bed. He'll come back and do tje same again. If i shut him out of the bedroom he walks round yowling. Hes part siamese so sounds horrendous!
He seems a bit senile to me! Happy to take him to the vets but my other cat atacks him whenever he comes back so i'd like to avoid tjat if poss. Any advice much appreciated.

Cats can go senile and sometimes vets will prescribe vivitonin which is a drug given to old dogs so off licence for cats and you would have to sign a disclaimer if the vet thought it the appropriate treatment. There could be lots of other reasons for his odd behaviour though. At his age I think the best thing to do would be to take him to a vet for a blood test(and keep him away from your other cat for a while when he comes back so he doesn't get attacked) Old cats are very prone to kidney failure and hyperthyroidism which would both be shown up with a blood test and could partly contribute to odd behaviour if he is generally feeling"out of sorts".

Take him to the vets and as suggested keep your other cats away till he smells like home again.

Thanks for your replies. I took him to the vets just now. Vet said he was in good condition but clearly from his behaviour wasnt right. Said it was likely he had a space occupying lesion in his head so probably some sort of tumour. Said he could refer him for an mri to confirm or try some steroids for a week but he didnt really think they would have much effect and would b a short term option even if they did. Dear Pud clearly hasnt been himself at all and gone from a very confident biy to not knowing where he was so i decided to let him go as he clearly wasnt enjoying life. The vet was with me. So hard but i didnt want to see him unhappy and prolong it if the steroids were unlikely to help anyway. My friend is having her old pony pts today and my mums friend is burying her husband so lets hope tje new year starts off better than 2011 is ending.
