In April I went to the breeders where I have had dogs from before. To cut a long story short, I came back with Casper, who was aged 5 1/2 months then. The story was that he had been sold to Sweden as a stud dog, but the woman could no longer have him. The original selling price was £700, and I paid £200 for him.
A visit to the vets revealed one of the worse cases of ear mites he had ever seen, along with only one dropped testicle.
In the meantime, still no registration papers despite several requests.
Today Casper has gone in for castration, the operation will be far more expensive as it is no longer routine.
I queried why Casper had his dew claws on, I was told by the breeder that the kennel club had been about to ban the removal of these. I asked the vet to remove them at the time of castration, but have been told that they are very stuck in, and this will add another 20 minutes to the operation which will now take much longer than expected.
My suspicion is that the breeder tried to remove the dew claws, but could not. Also that the buyer came to collect Casper, but discovered he only had one ball.
I hasten to add that this is a top breeder, always winning at Crufts, and the dogs do very well abroad as well. Casper also cowered all the time when we first had him.
Casper has a home for life with us, but I wonder what his prospects could have been otherwise. Needless to say, I will never go back to this breeder again.

Doesn't sound much like a reputable breeder to me. At least this lucky little dog has fallen on his feet. I'm sure he will reward you with love and affection for many years to come.
ETA, although if you've just had him castrated, you might not be in his good books for a day or two!!!

I bought my puppy who is now 2 for £150 she is a pedigree but not registered, i got her father for free his is full ped, working gun dog, he was kept out side in a kennel never walked and let out every now and then, to cut a long story short he has fits, I've had every test under the son done but nothing has come back to say what causes them . It has cost me a fortune in vets bill and at 6 he still has his balls as I'm worried if i remove them now he won't have the same personality. but i love him to bits and he has a home for ever with me sleeping on the end of the bed and settee when I'm at work

i went to scotland in august and they both got bably bitten by ants so that cost me £200 in vets bills, then last week my dog had a allergic reaction to a cleaning product, i took him vets he had a deep inner hair folical infection so that cost me another £100 for that.
