Seem to be having problems with one of our ponies who tends to mess with his head a lot when ridden. His teeth are up to date & various bits have been tried by our instructor. Any other ideas what we can do? Have tried a martingale when schooling at home but these aren't much better either..

We used to have a connie who shook his head when being ridden. We checked his back, had his teeth done to no help at all. We changed the saddle and the jockey etc etc but still no help. Then we called out the vet and it turned out he had an infection in his ears, hence why he was head shaking. It was delt with through treatment and everything was ok. The only over thing that you could do is try bungees, and really really ride him forward onto his bridle, as this would encourage a longer and hopefully more still head carraige. However i would first call out the vet as otherwise it could be something more serious that your just masking up! good luck

I had a Show pony years back and she consistantly shuck her head. We tried all kind like you, back, teeth, saddle etc - everything. We called the vet out and we found out that she was effected by sunlight. If it was bright and sunny day, the sun rays and brightness would cause her to have headaches, causing her to shake her head. We had to turn her out in a light reflecting mask and only show her on dull day or just take her out for short periods of time on a bright day and put her mask on in line up whilst her was standing there. Its not as uncommon as people think i no several ponies who are the same but still show perfectly well. not of the above try the bungee they are brillant for head shake or swinger!!! x :-) x Good luck hope this helps
